Cool video. No one *needs* a 5K bass. That's not the point though is it
All of my basses combined cost less than a lot of people spend on one bass. They are all exceptional instruments, especially considering the price. Being able to work on my own instruments also helps. I don't have to spend much to get a bass that will play like something 4 times it's price.

Even if it was, the tape isn't big enough to cover the butterfly. Also, I'm no Fodera expert but I've never seen one with angled tuners AND the headstock shape is wrong.
Yeah.... I'm wrong on the logo for sure. Definitely. My bad. Maybe this is the elusive Fedora everyone talks about?
This guys is probably overseas. It might be something similar to a fodera, kind of like those Hotwire basses that look like Wal's?

yeah, but replacing those rusty dead strings would double the cost of that bass!
I went back to the video too. I would say that this doesn't look like a genuine Fodera. The headstock, tuners, preamp knob pattern, no brass nut, even the shape on the body, I'd say he got ripped off if he paid $5K for this one.
Even a real Fodera would make for a ridiculous test, but the decision to buy a Fodera (or a lot of high end basses) isn't just made on the sound alone. It also has to do with the fit and finish, the woods used, and most of all (to me anyway) the way it feels. My Fodera has the nicest neck I have ever played (Thanks Vinny). Whether someone else chooses to spend their money on one is entirely up to them. I'm very happy with my decision.
Well, they all sound different. It is not like he is comparing three P basses with different price tags. I personally like the sound of the P the best which is no way $20. But, they are different sounding basses and there's no universal 'better'. Nice video!
I only hang out on TB to avoid working at work and instead think about bass stuff.
This is a silly statement because we all know a $700 car will be in constant need of repair for things that cost well over $700. In some fantasy world $700 car that isn't a complete POS that never works, doesn't have trashed interior, and doesn't cost more to maintain that buying a new may be nice. But here on planet Earth, a $700 car is a liability and a $20 bass is firewood with string on it.
Let us also not fool ourselves into thinking that if a "pro" showed up to an audition with that junker he would get the gig.
Let us also stop kidding our selves with this minimalist BS. A human can survive on two meals of nothing but water and rice everyday. Buddhist monks do it for their whole lives. Does anyone here do that? I doubt it. We could probably sew together serviceable clothing that would last us for years. Do we? We could all live in tents, but we don't. People like nice things, you have to pay more for nice things, and 99% of the time nice things are better than junky things.
Finally, no one needs a bass. No one needs music and no one needs musicians. So if you want to introduce what a person "needs" into this discussion, you have already lost.

The presumption that something digital keeps time better over something analog is a false one. Poorly designed is poorly designed. I have $3000 NTP clocks at work that drift terribly when they can't sync up to an outside source. The clock in my car is off by 7 minutes right now because it runs fast. I can reset it an it will be off like this again in just a few months. A precision gear\spring clock can keep time for years with less drift.
