I know. It's just that I've gone through so many basses looking for the "right" one, I'm not sure what to do.

I'm pretty sure that a 4 string is all I want. I also think I want an active bass again - as long as it's a quiet preamp. I thought I liked passive, but I think I miss that little something you get from an active bass. 34" scale. Light, nice quilt top with nice finish. Not sure if I want a "jazz" or something with soapbars, humbuckers, etc.

If you aren't sure, I'd save your money. Go try a bunch of basses and write down an exact list of what you like.

That being said, I've bought and gotten rid of "the one" a couple times and didn't realize it until the deal was done. I don't think there is a perfect bass, but there is surely something out there for you, you just need to figure out what it is before you do anything else.

After playing that USE Joe Osbourne the other day, I'm tempted to go Lakland, maybe a 5 even though it's 35" scale. That was one comfy neck. I've had 35" scale 5's before but for some reason they don't feel as comfortable to me these days. Maybe I just need to suck it up and get a nice Lakland 5'er. The 55's are nice - US and Skyline.

The old me would use it as down payment on a bass. The new me would never blow that kind of money on one bass.

On second thought, I'd buy a $5000 bass from someone who can't get rid of it for any more than $2500 and find someone who thinks it's worth $3500.

Sounds like you're on the right track. Have you thought about a Carvin SB4000?

A lakland 494 sounds like it would be great as well.

Thought you were going 4? Nothing wrong with 5. Play that 35 inch scale before buying though.

I have found that sometimes the things we want: 35 inch scale, 4 string, 5 string, active, passive etc... is exactly the reason we sell it. I say that, because I have done that. :(

Thought about the new Carvins, but am not sold on the look.
I think 4 is all I need, and as my hands get older, more stiff, a nice slim neck is attractive. But there's always the lure of the 5...

I've sold every 35" bass, so it's probably not wise to try to make myself play one. Maybe I should try a Lakland 44-02.

what about a B40? they look pretty sweet. especially with a Icon headstock.

why not a 44-94?

Bad advice. You mean like put the $2200 in a savings account where it earns virtually no interest and in a few years will be worth half what it is now as Gas prices soar and the dollar tanks?

I hate to say it but the guy who said 19 Wishbasses had a MUCH better investment for the money.

Nobody "invests" in a savings account.

pretty much...and at a loss when inflation is taken into account. But they are better than a checking account and liquidity is a nice feature. But you could invest a couple grand in a CD (or something a bit more daring) and make some money off of that cash.
