Personally, I choose the Z06.

I'd choose the nissan simply because from what Ive heard most american cars cant go around corners and have leaf springs :P

Also, how the hell do you get such little power out of a 7 litre engine :/

Haha, You've heard wrong. Z06 sticks to the road very well, In fact.. the pratt and miller C6RS race car has won many races and the Caddi CTS-V LS9 ran a really good time of 7:59 at the ring (i might be wrong but only by i few seconds i think) making it the fastest full sized sedan. If you do a pully swap and a tune you can easily get 600+hp out of an LS7. I can list all the reasons why the Z06 kills the GTR.

I'm still willing to bet the Nissan handles better. Though it is a 4WD.

Either way given the choice I wouldn't want either. I'm not a fan of Japanese cars and I hate most modern American cars (save the GT40). :)

GTR handles a little better, the Nurburgring time is deceiving because the GTR used race tires and the Z06 used street tires. Race tires can usually shave 3-9 seconds off the time.

I guess you could say I'm a muscle head, I love V8's, the smell of race fuel and burnt tire and nothing beats the sound of a 426 Hemi or 572 big block screaming down the track :D

The Corvette doesn't have leaf springs so that nixes that argument.

The little power from a 7 liter engine comes from the government restrictions that are mandatory in US production cars. Without the restrictions, that thing will top 550 with little effort. If you really want to go nuts without serious modifications, 900hp isn't unheard of in that 427.

That and the clocked using a flying start whereas the Z06 was a standing start (which is what everyone else uses as well) and they started and stopped timing at different points in the GTR's run shaving further seconds off. It was a very skewed run.

Why does one have to win? I love both.

The vette has the N/A V8 and it is pure power. The C6 vette overall is an amazing car, the Z06 is a real beast. The C6 incarnation has been tearing up the race circuit.

The GTR is finely tuned Japanese goodness. Gotta love turbos. AWD is a whole different (and fun) dynamic.

I would drive either gladly.

Wouldn't mind owning both one day... ;)

I wish the auto world wasn't so polarized and could appreciate different cars for different reasons. I find it especially ironic that the die hard american muscle fans fleet to the Z06 which is for all intents and purposes, very un-american in it's design (What? An American car that can turn? No way!).

I think they're both completely amazing and sexy... proof? Ok.

I can understand some people not liking the styling of the GTR, but denying it's technical prowess is foolish.

I never heard about the starting and stopping the time. Where did you read this?

It was shown in a Youtube video that is from Nissan as far as I can tell. They actually stop the video to show the start and stop of timing to make things worse, they skip an entire straight.

So after the flying start, race tires, and dubious timing practices I question the stats that Nissan has released, and I question whether the comparison cars that journalists have gotten to use so far are as they would be in the showroom. They might be but when you do something shady like the Nurburgring lap then I'm going to be suspicious of your other stats as well.

Very un-american in its design? Vette's have had pretty much the same body styling since the stingray's..

The whole American car's not being able to handle is BS, even back in the 70's look at Trans Am. Racing. Boss 302's, Challenger T/A's, and Z28 Camaros were built for handling and technically when America's muscle cars first started getting into that type of racing, grouped with all of the imports, they were too fast for the competition so they had to put them in a different class.

To be fair this criticism is usually made regarding driving on roads rather than tracks.

C&D's first drive test for the production US Spec GTR

GTR
0-60 - 4.1
1/4 - 12.6-111
0-100 - 10.2
0-150 - 26.6
5-60 - 5.2

vs.

Z06
0-60 - 3.8
1/4 - 11.9@124
0-100 - 8.3
0-150 - 17.9
5-60 - 4.5

C&D later released an article saying that the GTR used was weaker then then others and Nissan provided them another GTR which matched the J-Spec version's times. In other words Nissan provided C&D with a lot of money to release that article saying that.

Even if it did match the times though.. It's only running 11.6 at the fastest. Z06 can run even faster. (this an Am. driver in a completely stock Z06)
