ZON EMAIL MISCOMMUNICATION : a reason why a phone call is best!

That is an absolutely horrible thing they did to you. IMO, the bass is a total write-off. I will help to make things right between you and Joe, though. I'll pay the $700 and Joe can ship the bass to me...

sorry robwen, no can do. Would you like to buy my kidneys instead?

haha. I like the new look, and since its everything i asked for, i really really like it a lot and that pic has dispelled a lot of bad feeling about being charged more than i was told...

only thing is i hope the strings are nice... no point paying 30 bucks for strings i wont use...

I don't see what you are complaining about. You send things back to the original creator for their way of doing things.

So if they had installed a 24 carat input jack and said "yeah btw we had to install a 24 carat input jack, increasing your cost by $3000", he would be remiss to complain about it? I don't think you can make it as black and white as that...

Unfortunately, I don't really have any advice. The upcharges probably aren't a big deal but it's too bad it happened. I would guess that you will very likely be happy with the result if you pay the extra and accept what they did. Let us know how it turns out.

"In addition to all this we had to remove the tarnish from the frets and install new strings."

This is the part I wouldn't be happy about. You never mentioned anything about the frets or strings, why did they even touch something you hadn't spoke to them about. It's like them say, "oh, btw we adjusted you setup lower since it was so high for an addition charge of $50", when you didn't ask them about this or you might even like your old strings or whatever.

Personally I would have payed what I was quoted, and not a dime more.

The fact that they went ahead and did extra work, WITHOUT any permission from you as the owner, is rediculous.

I can understand a miscommunication, but adding the extra work/cost like new strings, and cleaning up the frets, etc. was just rediculous, especially the fact that they charged you for this extra work when originally it was not included in the original price quoted to you.

EDIT:

Although, That bass went from Sexy to a complete knockout, What a difference.

I personally dont mind a few stacked knobs, but that thing looks amazing , the knobs/switches are very well layed out.

They did a great job, short of the mixups.

Uh to clarify:

I shipped the bass without strings and disassembled (too large a package if it was assembled) so i guess I had to pay for strings so they could set it up properly.

I suppose the only real gripe i had was the non-communication. The bass had no strings, the frets were brown and green, and it had large routs which needed to be filled by custom pickups. Nothing they did seemed too expensive, but yeah, would have loved to be informed first, cos (surprise!) i'm a little tight on cash, waiting to go to University.

Updates: I've paid for it and it's already en route to my virtual postal address in the States. Gotta love the Singapore postal system, i ship it to a States address and i get it by air at a cheap rate!

How much are you paying for shipping? I'll bet that puts the price difference in the round off error category.

I pay about 150USD shipping each way. Customs takes 5% off the work valued at 700USD so that adds another 35USD. That brings my total non-Zon costs to 335USD. I could get 2 SXs for that money!
