Zoom B3 As Preamp

The Bass BB is my new favorite effect and will turn the SVT amp model into a fire-breathing demon.

The settings I use simply impart a bit of tube growl without further coloring the original bass signal. Place it in front of the SVT and welcome to Detroit Rock City.

Cheers!

I run the Bass BB into the FlipTop. Pure tube (sim) goodness!

My only gripe with these 12" active monitors is that most have a frequency range of ~80-20k hz or 65-20k hz at best and most bass amps go atleast as low as 40hz and its easy to hear the difference so even with properly nice amp and cab sims the active monitors dont put out the same low end we are used to hearing!

Which ones have you tried? I've been eyeing up the QSC K10 for low volume jazz restaurant gigs after eyeballing the freq response charts which look good enough for bass...Link Removed

I've also been extremely interested in the RCF HD-10A, which has a big bump around 60-80Hz - [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] - a very interesting looking small powered PA monitor.

Your experiences are appreciated!

I have the BB, SVT, with the 160 comp first in line set up on both my B3 & MS-60B and it is awesome. Grit on the SVT with more added by the BB is epic. Switching the BB on and off within the patch a needed. Great in my cover band for kiss, Joan jett covers!

I have my MS set up with ZNR>BassGraph>Bass BB>BottomB to B3, AutoWahComp>FlipTop>160Comp>Amp.
I use the BB as a boost/thickener when needed.
I love my tone!

I have viewed several clips on YouTube of players comparing actual stomp boxes to their B3/MS-60B simulations of same and I am floored!

Do any of you have actual stomps of B3/MS-60B simulations and how would you say they compare?

Cheers!

What do you really mean CharlieC? Are you devastated because the originals sound so much better than the simulation or are you impressed by the quality of the B3/M2-60B simulations? Sorry, it is not clear to me what you really mean. Please clarify.

Cheers,
Andreas

Sorry for the international confusion, Andreas!

To clarify, I am overwhelmingly impressed by the spot-on emulation of the few actual pedals I viewed on YouTube.

I am well-convinced that even if one is not into modeling or DSP that there is something worthy of consideration in the B3/MS-60B devices.

While I consider myself someone who never jumped on the bandwagon of processed lifeless sounds, especially were bass is concerned. With my current band I had a need for certain FX, what I have found is my need for FX was not important but rather my bass tone became my primary focus, being the sound man and bass player I do not have the option to spend time tweaking my tone , after a few shows and some experimentations I find with B3 it's a plug and play. I could not imagine doing a show without it, my tone is great and when I do work with another sound man they seem to love the fact that I'am not yelling at them the whole time !!!
I am equally in depth to Zoom and Charlie, I can spend more time getting the mix good and putting on a good show!!!
My only critique is the power supply , I wish it had a detachable heavy duty cord that plugged in with out the wall wart power supply.

I have a real MXR M80 and compared to the D.I.+ in the 60B, both channels (clean and distortion) are pretty much spot on with a little tweaking. Amazing pedal!

Thanks, John!

I, too, used to be worried about the fragile power supply cord until I built a cable snake that now keeps it well-protected.

Cheers!

sorry about the late response
i have tried what is locally available here, a bunch of active speakers made here and a yamaga stage pass PA which without a sub has a low freq of 60hz
honestly if its made well you would be ok using an active monitor which goes low down till 50ish or so but if you want to hear a clear low b, you might have some trouble like i did!

i have tried laney 12" monitors too, same result!

Thanks man. I'm going to make some time to try some powered monitors out.

Alright, I got a really strange problem here. I'm getting a permanent delay and reverb type effect on my B3. No matter which patch I try it's there. Tried different basses. Still there. Went straight from bass to amp... gone. So it's definitely not bass, cable or amp. I did a factory reset. It was gone for about two minutes and then came straight back. ***? What do I do?

Sorry to say that I have never heard of such a thing before.

A factory reset should have surely cured this.

Perhaps this truly is some type of device failure, but I honestly believe something else is afoot here.

When these delay/reverb effects are occurring, what happens if you begin individually turning-off each of the 3 effect slots? (as I am certain at least one is intentionally on/enabled.) Please advise if the problem eventually goes away when 1, 2 or all 3 slots are disabled.

The problem magically fixed itself. I touched nothing, went outside for a minute, came back and it has been working all night.

But for sake of having the information out there;

As I switched patches and/or turned off individual slots, I could here the tone change accordingly behind the delay/reverb. The problem stayed on with 0,1,2,3 slots enabled.

Not overly long before this started happening, I started messing with a chorus/reverb/arena patch. I moved on from there for about a half hour. The problem really very much sounded like that patch got stuck on, but allowed other patches to work in behind it. Almost like I had two patches operating at once, but with the reverb patch way in front.
