Zoom B3 Patch Volume Levels

Hi,

I have noticed that the default patch levels on The Zoom B3 are set at various different levels. I saw this using the Edit & Share software. I assume the word "patch level" is another name for volume control? If I alter the "total" level on each patch, does this change the volume on the the individual patch? If I change the "global" setting, does this alter all the patches?

Excuse my ignorance, am new to bass effects. I have read all the posts here and the manual, which seems to tell you what the functions are, but doesn't really help with the actual tasks they perform.

From what I have seen of the B3 manual, you're right - patch volume is Level under the Total menu; Global gives you the overall output level of the unit. I presume that means that the max on Total Level just becomes whatever 100% of the Global value is, and it scales down from that.

You have to set pretty much all volumes and gains individually I find, the global is just a master volume. Take note of the gain settings too. For whatever reason some knob down at Zoom decided it would be a great idea to put their fake tube OD simulation on every single amp, including the SS ones. Last time I played an SWR or Markbass it didn't have tube grind...

So, you have Effect volume (within each individual stomp's settings), then Patch volume (accessed under Total), then Global volume to set the ceiling of the unit overall. That's a lot to track.

The presets are just to give you an idea of what it can do - very few are usable as-is, especially out of the bedroom. You really need to dig into each FX separately as you would a stand-alone pedal to figure them out - even google up the manuals for each as the Zoom docs are pretty terrible. I'll admit I put my B1on aside for a few days after first seeing how much more complex it is than the old 506II I was using. I'm pretty happy with it now :) . Crazy deal for $50 shipped and I already have a couple patches that wouldn't work on a B3 because they have 4 FX chained.
