Zoom MS-60B+ (a compact B2-Four?)

I feel like this (MS60b+) into a SL CabZone X, might be all you’d need for a tiny board set up.

that would be a tight board!

while the MS-60B+ cabs are pretty good.

the amps come alive with good 3rd party IRs.

CabZone X or Two Notes Opus with the Ashdown DYN IR collection would be killer!

Both have DI XLR!!!

I have one (B+) on the way! I've owned several MS60's (5?), an original B3, a B3N, and a CDR. For years I ran a 60v1 into a B3N as my entire board. I love the Zoom stuff, and I'm excited to be coming back to it. Really looking forward to pairing it with my CabZone.

Since the CabZone Bass is unavailable new or used, i've been digging into the ToneX ONE as a simple IR loader.

In preset browse mode, there is access to the 20 presets with the 3 stomp locations.

PLUS, the native ToneX VIR Cab models are excellent! dynamic mic select and placement.

I'll definitely grab a CabZone Bass for the IR loading, power amps, routing, and XLR DI.

when one pops.

You can get the CabZone direct from Shift-Line, and I think on Reverb!

I got it...for use mainly as a general effects pedal...to get an OCTAVE...CHORUS, FLANGE...and VIBE for certain songs in the set...I have all the Zoom bass stuff and the B 2 FOUR was my main live rig. I went back to Tech 21 Geddy and BBDI...and got this...it's freaking amazing

I don't understand, you said you went back to analog pedals, and are they more satisfying to you?

Well, mine arrived 3 hours ago. Bit later than expected, but in this heat I can't blame the UPS guy for taking it easy. First impressions:

When I hooked it onto my Ipad, first thing it wanted to do was a firmware update. Nothing special, just a bugfix. Yes, there are firmware updates! Not sure if that's a good thing or not, but at least Zoom's keeping their eye on it at the moment.
Sounds are very close to my B6. If I copy my B6 patch dials to the exact same values (where possible, not all effects are included in the 60B+) in the 60B+ it takes an effort to spot any differences though an amp. My DAW shows a slightly lower output compared to the B6, but that's all I can find at the moment. No biggy.
Octaver, pitch shifter, compressors and the LPF/HPF react the same as my B6 as well. Still need to play with the synths. I plan to do that over the weekend. Of course, I don't have everything from my B6 at my disposal so I may need to find some replacements effects or settings, but for now: YAY! This is what I was hoping for.
The editor is quite similar to Guitar lab. No windows/linux support atm, but the IOS app is fast and efficient. I like that it also has a patch pool. Just load your gig onto the pedal, some fresh batteries and off you go. Again, YAY!

Bummer:
Patch switching isn't fun with a size 11. Effect switching is less bothersome but it'll take some getting used to. I was sort of expecting this. As mentioned before, I won't be switching that often the way I intend to use it, but it's worth noticing. Personally, I'll manage. YMMV

So, going to dial it in over the weekend, Gonna take my B6 to practice tonight, but next rehearsals on Thursday I'll be bringing this baby and we'll see how good is is live =]

For now, I'm a happy little bass player :bassist:

Does anyone know if the B+ will work with the DMC Micro to scroll presets like the v1 did?

from their support:

"Hey there! I’m still waiting on my MS-70CDR+ to arrive, but according to Zoom they should be compatible with our existing controller lineup. Anything from the MIDI Baby all the way up to the DMC-8 Gen3 should work to control the new Plus lineup.

I’d recommend either a MIDI Baby, Baby 3, or DMC.micro Pro as a good compact way to control one of these guys."

Thanks for sharing you comparison. I may yet get a MS-60B+ so that I can be super-portable where that's needed.
Do you have any perspective on whether the quality of the sounds and effects, and tracking, are better than the B1 Four and MS60B that it replaces?

Sadly I can't help you here. My last Zoom device before the B6 was a 506. Sorry.

Question, how is the pitch shifter just for doing simple downtune 1/2 step and whole step (Eb and D)? If it is acceptable, I may look at this. I was thinking about a B6, but I don't need all that for something that won't be my main rig and will just be for home and some flyrig shows.

I'm a simple man, on a budget.

Years ago I bought a B1on and later a B1xon. I've used both to death and still use them. If the new iterations are an improvement over the previous, the MS60B+ should be good. As I was happy with the performance of those old pedals.

Sure there was a little glitch on some of the pitch shifting but I had worked with older pedals, Boss ME-6B, that had them and got used to knowing how to play with them to make them sound acceptable. One of my favorite pitch settings, full octave down.

As with any shifter, I'd rather not use it period. There's always artifacts and latency that I just find annoying even if it is manageable. But with this (and the B6) I'll do -1/2 step and still make it sound passable in a mix. Not for an entire gig mind you, but you can get away with a song here and there. There is latency, but not that much that it's utterly unplayable to me. I haven't measured it but if I had to guesstimate I'd say about 0.1-0.3 seconds. Regardless of the exact latency, in my experience it's taking 1-2 bars of more concentrated playing to have my fingers adjusted to the latency. This makes it fine for a slow song but I wouldn't recommend playing something like Higher Ground with it. Also, like most shifters, It does sucks low end out of your sound, so you'll have to compensate for it. Putting a compressor/HPF before the pitch shifter and an EQ after it helps and both are available in the 60B+, but it's not perfect. Then again, no pitch shifter I know of is.

A whole step down? I'd rather not, thank you. If it's just you playing say 'Seeman' by Rammstein for example you may get away with it. You start the song in your own feel and you end it the same way. But as soon as you start to listen to the rest of the band, you're gone. That's how it feels to me. Not to mention I couldn't ignore the band for an entire song no matter how hard I tried. If I ever need to detune -1 or lower for songs, I'm bringing my trusty 5 or 6 string. It's the only way to sound convincing and feel comfortable playing IMO.

Of course, YMMV.
