I never use the duckbill case either, but separating them seems crazy to me.

Devil's advocate....

GC is a place where folks can dump their messed up s*** that they can't sell themselves, in the hopes that the GC stooges won't notice or even care. And they're right. GC's cavalier approach to taking screwed up trade-ins only fuels the never ending process.

And it seems deliberate on their part. Kinda like car dealers who'll take any old POS trade-in to sell a new car. But the reputable car dealers don't put the POS car trade-ins on their used car lot for resale. But GC does, which makes them complicit in the scam. That is proven time and again, when they get all those returns, then simply relist them as if nothing happened.

It seems like what GC isn't so cavalier about these days is researching market values. Undoubtedly AI is their new friend, helping them get full value for their used gear. No more human errors in pricing anymore. Hence the scarcity of true bargains anymore, either.

About four years ago I bought a Cordoba C12 from Sweetwater and began taking lessons. I went through several teachers who led me to work on pieces that were above my ability level and then hit upon Classical Guitar Corner Academy. Since then, I've been making progress, and I'm playing at a low-intermediate level. I'm good enough to play guitar in a trio that does Brazilian bossas and sambas. I also play flute and bass in the group. I'm planning to buy a guitalele, as I think it will work with the group and give me a bit more flexibility. One more thing to carry around, but at least it's small!

What I love about studying classical guitar is that I can discover so much beautiful repertoire that flies under the radar.

I have a Gretsch G2220 Junior Jet bass that I'm considering a pickup mod on. I want something more raw-sounding and thinking about a Rickenbacker Bass Toaster pickup in the neck position. I haven't had much luck finding complete accurate dimensions online. A couple of considerations...1) Whether the Toaster will adequately fill the rout left when I remove the Electromatic Single Coil pickup, .....And 2) Height - Years ago I built a Telecaster guitar that I installed Toaster pickups in and mounting height was problematic (pickup mounted to the underside of the pickguard was too far from the Strings, but mounted top-side above the pickguard was too close to the strings) I anticipate needing some kind of adaptor plate to deal with any surface size difference on my Gretsch bass, unless the Toaster happens to exactly fit the Electromatic single coil pickup's mounting screw points exactly, so I'm guessing the same situation as I ran into with the guitar pickguard might also apply here. I searched Talk Bass and found mention of a Precision bass with a neck Bass Toaster pickup in Stu Cook's CCR bass, but couldn't find any details that referred to pickup height relative to the strings. Anybody have any advice?

Thanks everyone for sharing. I've used osmo a few times but never on an instrument. I plan to try a tinted version on the "better twenty years late than never" build I'm doing. But after reading this, I'll propably try it on many other things.

I built a coffee for my wife to be back when we were students 20 something years ago. I used alder and dyed it quite dark. I treated the table with osmo and I remember doing more than two coats. I didn't have much experience on any klnd of surface teeatment back then.

Anyways as I recall it the osmo had no problem with the water based dye, although I remember wiping the first layer on I did get some dye on the pad. The table was used for a many years with no real wear. A couple of dents though.

It was retired some years ago and is now waiting to be repurposed as instrument wood. But the finish is still fine.

These are actual lead sheets with melodies, for starters. I do have and use iReal myself but I find it very limiting.

I sorted out the problem in the end. The shim only made things worse. So I replaced the damned bridge with a Kickass high mass bridge. Boy oh boy, what a difference. A nice low action now and the bass plays and sounds so much better than before. No more jagged grub screws either!

This is my current spread to chose from. Some (chiefly the Markbass and Orange pedals) sound absolutely amazing BUT either take up a lot of space and/or power, so they're difficult to stick on a board. Curious how y'all would line these up (or sell a few for a Darkglass Anagram?).

If it makes any difference, I play Schecter Stiletto's with DR Low-Rider strings. Also, the Sennheiser wireless doesn't HAVE to stay on the board. Depending on the campus I play at some have wireless IEM's and some are wired, so I'm not always guaranteed to have the option for completely wireless anyway. I might pick up one of those Sure tuner/wireless combos to replace it and my tuber OR just bring it separately for the campuses with wireless IEM's.

My response, which you won't like...? Leave it ALL at home other than a tuner. You have enough EQ between your bass and the house sound that you don't need them. You're playing bass, not lead, and it's a church, not a metal festival.

YouTube videos are generally a terrible way to critically evaluate the tonal qualities of instruments. What you’re actually hearing here is not just instrument woods. What you’re hearing, in rough order of contribution, is:

• This guy’s room
• This guy’s cabinet
• This guy’s amp and amp settings
• This particular bass’ pickups and electronics
• This particular bass’ strings
• YouTube’s audio/video compression algorithms
• This guy’s technique
• This particular bass’ design characteristics and construction

Agree 100% However some online videos can be useful and give information that is more than you knew before you heard anything. There's also some reviewers I think are reputable, I'm used to their studio sound and know how to play (Lobster for one) with enough different techniques to demo a bass close to how I would play. But it Has to be ebony coated walnut for that flavour. (probably 35" or multiscale too)

Last night's launch from Vandenberg viewed from Ventura, 90 miles away. These never get old.

I love it. If I ever have another relic project, I will be stealing that idea.

Hey Everyone! Today we're reviewing the new Ibanez MDM1300 Mode Series and putting this bass through its paces! The Ibanez Mode Series took bass players by storm when it was unveiled at the 2026 NAMM show. The Ibanez takes the classic jazz bass character and combines it with the modern tonal flexibility and playability of the Ibanez Soundgear. The result is a player focused jack-of-all-trades. Let's check it out!

We got layout lines, and can see where the pickups are going… tough to squeeze in 3 bisonics on a 30” with 24 frets.

If you have one of these electrical tools it includes cutters for 6-32 screws. Just screw it in to the length you want to trim and SQUEEZE. Might need to clean up the tip afterwards but they work well especially for these smaller size ones.

I wish I could tell you the brand, it’s a mashup of parts. Really want to plug in, will look up InstaSplit. Heck, my armrests don’t even match. Wednesday’s child of wheelchairs the better half can take a picture later and I’ll post it.
