Is it possible to have good sound on the e string? Mine sound very bad. How barely hear the difference between the lower notes. Mine is a fretless with flats btw

Did it for years. Never a problem. The trick is to lean forward so the bass on more that it’s resting on your back. Keep your back straight. You have to always be mindful of the scroll. Nothing beats dealing with hills (I live in the SF bay) like backpack straps.

See above. Lean forward but pivot at the hips.

Doorways are a problem for everybody, backpack straps or not. If it’s tight you always take the bass off your back. Going on an escalator with it on your back sounds like a bad idea period. It’s not meant to be a solution for all situations.

If I was commuting in NYC with back pack straps I’d always want to have a free hand or else you’re pretty much a victim of someone wants to knock you over. I only do the back pack plus two hands full if I’m schlepping to/from a car.

It is a Gibson Bass , so we know too well that it will never increase in value.

I'm afraid you won't be able to fix the center volume increase without modifying the circuit (some resistor values). Look up panning law. It pertains to audio mixers, but it's also relevant to active pickup blending.

Note to self: maybe I should think about designing a better/more flexible active blend? With user-selectable summing law?

Yup. VVT or VTVT are probably most common but you can do whatever you like.

I looked at a GT-7 at a Music Go Round back when I was going to buy a seven stringer in 2014.
I don't care for basses with shiny finishes.
And that pucker around the output jack turned Me away.

Ok I was wondering as I often sit with my Steinberger body hanging low between my legs with the neck not far off vertical. Brings the left wrist to a better angle I could physically play it like this on a plane, but it probably wouldn't be allowed

Haha j/k other folks can get usable tones from a single parallel-wired pickup in that location but it's the least favorite tone on a bass that I've owned, at least with the original 3 band EBMM "boom-honk-clank featuring inexplicable gut-robbing HPF" pre.

So I’ve kind of not cured the problem. But I have stacked an orange obc112 in n top of a Markbass traveller 210 which I pimped up the front with some vox style material. Omg, sounds so much better than one cab on its own. Absolute revelation. The good thing about the orange terror 500 is it has two spekon outputs and you can select 8 or 4 ohms so you can be confident it’s safe. Unfortunately the output of the Di is adjusted with the main output volume. Not sure if there is a work around with send and return. But it’s a great sound.

My experience with GHS is they have good customer service and stand behind their products.
Plus, they make good strings!

I emailed Guyker to ask if they are considering making a model with bases curved to fit Jack tops. I'm pretty sure this bridge has a flat base and is made for all the other 3-point bridge basses with flat tops. I don't have any idea if a curved bridge base is even practical to make. But one can only hope.

I also asked how long their anodized colors should last on working basses.

It wouldn't take too much effort to design and 3D print a baseplate that matched the contour of the Casady top.

Looking for advice.... I bought one of these a while back and when I install it the way it sits in the larger ring around the pickup I end up with sharp edges. Too uncomfortable to use. The pics of the OP bass and other show rings with a smoother transition to be lower around the pickup and mine is pretty sharp. Is there somewhere to get the full assembly?

Note this is on a 1975 4000 so I may have some odd parts on mine.

A few hours of tweaking the thunderbird, & the results are better.


^^^from 1.629" to 1.563", & then a slim down of the body size overall, reduced the weight amazingly. It's still hefty, but much less than it was.


^^^few rounds of resizing, & after this, a clean up on the belt sanders, & a final roundover - hand filing where the output jack is. & 4 maple blocks glued in the pickup cavities. I may needd another morning just to cut down the blocks & have the pickups fit properly, & some final holes drilled.
