Heard one of the best amps today

New heads are lighter, more powerful and have more features, but do not sound better to my ears, at all.
Interesting thought! In terms of a general observation I would say that many manufacturers are reprising legacy sounds and feel in the new smaller, light weight technologies because we did have some good playing rigs back in the day.

I also think the aspect about new features is right on as well as things like USB charging ports, variable HPFs, etc. are welcome additions in modern heads that offer legacy inspired voicing.

Fender MIM mystery headstock hole

View attachment 3844091 These CNC holes popping up in hidden places is getting out of control.
This just came up in the Fender Aerodyne thread. How would you like to pull the tuners off, in order to replace with something lighter, and see this.
Maybe an effort to counter neck dive? Maybe to accommodate some feature on the machine heads?

Les Paul EB-0 orginal style (not SG) bodied basses

As you mentioned above the Les Paul Jr Tribute DC sounds like the ticket. The "P" bass location of the pup is a big departure for Gibson and it is an incredible sounding instrument. There is a push/pull coil tap on the volume control and it really adds tonal variations to a single pup bass.

The Gibson EB-11 is another bass worth looking into. Only built as a limited edition back in 2011 but can be found in the 1400.00 to 1500.00 price range. It has the same electronics of the SG Standard bass but sounds very much different. I have both the SG Standard and the EB-11 so this is not just an assumption. It took me a couple of months for me to find this one but, well worth it. The Pelham Blue is to die for IMHO.

A " Les Paul Double Cut" would be the proper terminology for this body style IMHO.
In what way does it sound different than the SB Standard Basses?

Post-Stroke Exercises

I had a mild stroke last February, affecting my right hand (I'm right handed). My plucking technique is mildly compromised, manifesting in slightly laggish timing, and loss of ability to play quick 16th notes. Does anyone out there have experience with this, and exercises to share? Thanks a dillion in advance!
Sorry to hear that! Get well soon!

Will a Squire Jaguar 32" scale neck fit on a Squire Classic Vibe 70s P-bass?

I forgot about this thread... Ive never attempted something like that but it looks pretty natural. I suspect having the shorter scale together with the horn at the 11th fret instead of the 12th makes for a fairly comfortable playing experience, especially for those of us with shoulder and wrist\hand issues. Another option for people to consider.

Please ID this bass - I figure if anyone can name this bass it's all you Pros on here. Thanks a bunch.

Weren’t those old PRS 4- and 5-string basses called the “Curly” model?

…or was that only the ones with a translucent finish?

The latter.

Terrific instruments that never got the recognition they deserved, IMO.

Apart from Robbie Shakespeare I can't recall any well-known bass player using them.

Jazz bass neck pickup sounds super thin and weak unless wired directly to output jack

Just wanted to drop in and say I've come across this issue today, and after much scouring of the internet it appears the solution is a rewind. According to some comment, the reason you still get weak output with no bass is due to continuance.

I've sent the pickup off for a rewind and will try to remember to post back.

For a quick overview of what I did to discover this:-

Neck pickup unusually thin.

Re-wired wiring harness, all new pots, wiring, and solder. All joints nice and shiny. Still low output.

Direct to jack, had a more full sound.

When testing ohm resistance 20k, received 0.L (infinite resistance)

Contacted my pickup guy, confirmed it needs a rewind.

Hopefully this helps somebody who comes across this thread.
Did the rewind resolve the problem?

Headless bass handmade strap hook (for Steinberger Spirit, Hohner B2, etc..)

I also 3D printed these simple thumb rests. They work great and are hardly noticeable - they blend right in as if they're part of the pickup. They're printed from a rubber material called TPU. They're not perfect, you can see the lines from the printing in them. But from 2 feet away they look great! I love them. If anyone has one of these basses and wants a set of thumbrests, let me know and I'll print you a set.

These are exactly what I'm looking for can you send me the 3d printing file so I can print some?! Thanks SO MUCH!

Acoustic Archtop Bass

I’m building a large ABG (24.5” lower bout, 4.5” - 9” deep wedge shape, flat back) and my last thing to figure out is the arch top. The bass is all vacuum laminated - and the top will also be - over an arched mold [forma]. It will have a bass bar and sound post.
I’m trying to figure out the best arch or dome to use to make my positive mold. I could leave the perimeter flat or take the domed approach across the whole top (and thus have to angle the sides and linings to mate). Do the plans you’ve mentioned above include details of the compound curves?
