Really making me miss my "Pet Rock."

Update: The harness arrived, and well...it didn't fit. Holes were a couple of millimeters too small for the new pots, which required 10mm holes, and the old knobs were made for split-shaft pots, not for the solid 1/4 knobs of the Obsidianwire harness.

Luckily, I had a good round filer, and after 1 hour (and the hardest forearm workout I ever did), I managed to enlarge the holes on the control plate enough for the new pots to fit. Ordered some Allparts 1/4 knobs (they were on discount for only 8 euros). I assembled everything, and voila', it works, and it sounds great. A picture of the result (with the new finish, the original one was sunburst):

Lots of great GENERAL info in the thread that can be cherry-picked and used together to make the tone you require.
Can't say any individual pedals mentioned are a one-stop solution.

You might luck out and get a 1-pedal solution, but more than likely it'll take that ensemble of the ripest cherries.

My suggestion, get the following:

HIGH-PASS FILTER to get rid of the crud and mud that tires ears and messes up your overall sound
CROSSOVER CLEAN-BLEND, one able to add an OD to your lows, and distort/fuzz mids & highs; don't add full-freq clean-blend, just lows.
POWERFUL EQUALISATION, something that can target specific resonances would be good
OVERDRIVE of CHOICE
DIST/FUZZ of CHOICE

That crossover with overdriven lows and a full-range fuzz should integrate well — avoid the oil-on-water so many seem to hate.
Who knows, you may get away with running just an OD > FUZZ.
You may find that the last pedal in the combo defines the character of your tone, for example it may be better to shape the FUZZ's tone with an OD after it, an OD with some good EQ to retain "sparkle" while rejecting "fizz". For ex: a distortion or OD after a Muff can "unscoop" the mids needed to cut and have clarity in the mix — which OD, and which Muff? Well ...

There are so many options out there the combinations are unlimited, so many different tastes/requirements, and of course so many individual playing styles unique to each player... What works for one person may not work for another, even if the two people are playing through the same rig (like going up and guest-spot on a tune using someone else's entire gear-chain).

Hopefully you've got enough information from the thread to guide you on the correct path for you.
If you DO find a 1-pedal solution for yourself, well... BRAVO!

Group I was with back then had the tuck 'n' roll Kustom P.A. cabinets that had 2x15" JBL's and a big round silver horn in the top of each cabinet.
(I think they were advertised for use for P.A., guitar and keys.)
The Kustom P.A. heads were maybe 4' long, way under powered with few controls for each channel, and was a true PIA to carry!

But, they sure were LOUD!

Good sounding?????.....well.....they sure were LOUD!

We have a similar thread on a local German board. Which reminds me on something…

According to the oldest pics from 2003, where I used it already, somewhere in 2002 a fellow Pitter had bulk cable in different colours and straight/angled jacks and offered to build instrument cables.

Now, I learned that the biggest risk for cables are guitards, so I ordered some in red, 6 m, straight/angled and straight/straight. These are still in use w/o any problems, aside from one where I ruined a plug when closing the Bass case while the plug was inside the metal frame.

Late tot he party but I just got one of these USED and it faired very well on a session with the New Mexico Avant Jazz Workshop Band was big - Electric Piano Rhodes, Drums, Electric Violin, 4 saxophones, bass clarinet and he also sometimes played his electric bass. Music was dynamic but it was not a cocktail jazz moor like the volume of a horn driven band.

It was my clean bass sound as my STAT-B drove a Merix EnxoX, Source Audio Artifakt and an Eventide H90 Amplification was provided by my AI Coda combo

I fot this used gtom a TB member as my Audio Technica is shot. I would have to back off the level or not use it at all.

Clean sound was good. I did boost the highs some but overall I think it It captured the bass well and had good sound bleed rejection. Mount was good even though I was playing a bit physical

True, but for most Sadowsky fans, the electronics are the heart of the bass. All sorts bodies can used for a Delano/Audere loaded bass. That said, it is his bass, and he knows what he likes. More to the point, he does mods for a living and the bass sounded great in the videos he recorded at church. I think it would have sounded great stock, but it was not my call.

That foam was given to me so it wasn't really a conscious choice. Also if I could found a way to use the interior, I would probably have done it. This was a pretty quick assembly, though.

Just wanna give you a heads up on this, because i was in the same boat as you years ago. If you don't go with the direct replacement be very mindful of the dimensions. I ordered a stacked knobs combo off amazon thinking they would be pretty universal but the hole in the bottom was too big which resulted in the set screw putting it off center.

Thought I would check back in and see how you are getting along with the Smith. I’m guessing that you haven’t played much else since acquiring it.

Someone asked you what you were letting go of to make room for the Smith. I’m curious to know what you are keeping to complement the Smith.

Something to keep in mind is his strings. If he’s playing warm and dark broken in bass boomers or flats it’s going to show up on his trick fish preamp. A transparent and neutral preamp will only give you back what you put in so you can literally take the most HiFi preamp and warm the hell out of it and it’ll cop a vintage like tone. The beauty is being able to get both. The warmest and heaviest colored setups are limited to that 1 tone. The more neutral setups give you the most room to impart anything you want into it. You find this out as you start testing amps and preamps and find out what twisting knobs does vs does not do depending on the rest. I think between the genzler, mesa, mxr it’ll be hard to go wrong. Also the Aguilar tone hammer in case you see one in your budget. I used one for years to get me versatility between warmth and edgy heavy tones.

Actually, I have one that’s out on permanent loan to a bassist who needed an amplifier. It’s outlasted several of his other newer amps.
