Boosting on most any preamp will add noise, the treble band the most noisy. It's tricky, as there is a shared control in the pre. In active mode, the treble control at the center detent is flat/neutral, but in passive mode, the treble control becomes the tone control and needs to be turned all the way up to be 'neutral.'
For the most part, I just set the amp/etc... brighter downstream and use the onboard treble control mostly in the center detent or for cuts. For the rare times I boost, it's in the mix playing live, so the noise floor isn't so apparent.

As for the pickups, Super Ferrites are completely encased in epoxy and unable to be further potted without professional, archaeological level dectonstruction of the pickup.

Seemed noisier than other active basses I’ve played, but it is an old preamp after all.

Too bad about the pickups… mine definitely reproduces pickup and body tapping through the amp. Assuming that’s not how they all are. I guess I will have to live with it. I’m surprised the pickups would even get loosened up if they are so solidly epoxied

Yeah, it's weird. I have had a Superferrite that went bad-it had a break in the coil or something, as it started reading over 100Kohms. They usually fall somewhere around 5.5K. Makes no sense given that they are so encased in epoxy.
