Since there is no longer support (and many parts are no longer available) for the amp, probably on the low side of your observed value. There are workarounds for some parts but not all.

No, it means that possible one of your other pedals is leaking current to the pedalboard and the tuner is sensitive to that. Since many pedals are fed from an ungrounded power source, ground references are not really defined.

One thing that I had to improvise was putting a shim in the B string nut slot. I saw Ben’s restoration log for inspiration, but I’m not sure if I’d want to cut off the nut like that. Would the CA glue and baking soda trick work?

Pickups are dated to 75. Tuners and neck are correct. Pots and wiring are also original. Bridge is original. All the solder points are untouched, it's got the correct ceramic dime capacitor and those pots even though the date codes have been obscured by solder are definitely OG. The cheap black and white leads are factory. Not sure why several have told you the pots/pickups aren't OG. Nice bass. Hopefully you've bought this by now and you've strapped a black/white/black guard to it. Or lashed out on an anodised black guard!

If it's a Fender P, J or Telecaster before 1976 I'll have it - I've played in bar band rock, pub rock, grunge metal crossover, EDM and now all I write is trip hop sort of stuff mashed up with Middle East stuff, oud, darbuka, ney etc, and my two beaten up early 70's P basses always hold up their end of the bargain. When I was 18 I went crazy and bought a Boss flanger and chorus but by the time I turned 21 they were gone, and ever since it's been tubes, 15's and a lead. If a bass has more than two pickups and three knobs I can't handle it.

PS Ivo Papasov is Bulgarian and the only Bulgarian tune I know we do is counted 15 = 4+4+3+4. But we don't play as crazy fast as he does.

As for what Geddy’s playing, I had given up hope we’d ever see him with a Rick after he chose to play the Jazz at the Yes R&RHF induction. The Rick just looks and sounds so right!

I commented on it above, but I don't think I posted a picture of my five-string bass with the custom 33-inch scale neck. Notice mostly that it has a 2(B+E) + 3(ADG) tuner arrangement. This gets the B-string tuner more up the headstock so the leader doesn't bind. This is VERY important on a shorter scale five-string so there is no binding.

This is my new 1990 MIJ Fender 1962 Reissue Jazz bass. I wrote a detailed write up of this bass in this thread.

Amazing bass that really surprised me. Something that I find interesting about it is the basswood body. Most MIJ Fenders basses that have basswood have been really light from my experience, but this bass is more on the heavier side (this one is 9.7 lbs). Sounds and feels fantastic!

The Olintos may feel more supple because (I’m pretty sure) they use a smalller core wire than the DTFs. Like Dunlops.

It's got to be the Alleva Coppolo pups....... I've searched for replacements for the Sadowsky Blue Label flats (back when Roger went to V2's) and Black Label Flats for a while, including going back to both FL's and FS's. In fact, the FS's are still here.... each set stayed on for about 5 weeks..... my vocalist begged for me to try something else, because he keys off the bass, and was having trouble when the mix was dense and I'd get low on the E string.... just not enough clarity. No such issue with the Olintos. They are breaking in beautifully, and the mids are staying intact. I wouldn't be surprised if Labella is making them the same way they made the black labels for sadowsky..... just a bit larger gauge.

My Mustang is strung with D'Addario Nylon Tapewounds. They are my favourites strings: tone, flexibility, smoothness. Except, I need something brighter.

I loved DR Sunbeams and Thomastic-Infeld Jazz Rounds when I had a long-scale Jazz bass. I'm worried those would still be a bit too dark- or vintage sounding, so I'm thinking Fenders or D'Addarios.

However, I've never tried stainless steel rounds. Would they be good for modern pop or would they be too harsh for the slower songs? Are they much stiffer than nickels?

Also, since I have another bass with tapes and one with rounds, I was thinking maybe some sort of modern flats, like the Dunlops. I haven't played flats in a while, and I know they're somewhat dark sounding, but don't they technically have more going on in the highs than tapes? I know tapes are much brighter than people assume at first, but it's "subdued" top.

I put regular long scale (yeah I know) DR Lo Riders on a JMJ Mustang and prefer that set up better than JMJ with Labella or Fender flats.

My #1 basses over the last 25 years have been a Lakland 55-94 (3+2) , a Mike Lull PJ5 (4+1) and a Sadowsky MV5 Jazz (4+1). I'd recommend those 3 over any other bass I've played.

Yes, I will share...long time fixed bridge user here -- new owner of adjustable bridge. My "problem" is that Ima string changer. For years I used shims under the feet, but I wanted to try an adjusters so as to experience the nuances of string height -- especially with synthetic core strings. Now with the adjusters, all my strings sound a little darker, like somebody turned down the treble ... that, and maybe I lost some volume. My wife definitely noticed that my bass's voice sounds different now ... she said more "soulful". She not a musician, so I have to interpret her comments.

On my bass it sounds pretty much exactly how you'd expect a piezo played with a pick to sound. I don't really think it sounds like an unplugged bass, the piezo sound is kind of its own thing. Personally I don't find the piezo sound all that different from a pickup or compelling once it is in the context of a mix. Sounds cool for solo bass though.

You made the right decision on the color, whether you knew it or not. A darker color will tend to make the f hole disappear in most lighting situations. Whereas a lighter color bass lets that F hole shine. Ask me how I know. :smug:

It depend. As an example:

I modded my 1984 MIJ Fender Jazz Special, so it is more useable. I had this bass since 2001 - 25 years , The Fender pickups were hot but also muddy like those hot Duncans that have zero sparkle and the electronics and TBX tone control sucked and the bridge bothered my palm muting besides it wasn't stable. So GZR pickups, added a parallel mode via push pull, a usueable tone control, Hipshot Bridge, De-tuner on E, Reso-lites without adding new holes and Tusq nut. The neck was already a nice specimen of subtle flamed maple and the rosewood is dark. Now a usable PJ and doesn't look that different except for the bridge and knobs, I am even removing the paint on the EMG logo.

All mods improved the bass a lot. It has painted bass body in solid color and I am keeping it that way so that it keeps its modest appearance. Better than any American or even custom shop Fender passive PJ in sound and playability and it is also light.

I am not going to reverse any of the mods -- if I will sell it. I will give all the parts. But if you are a player, there is not need to go back to the original parts -- if you are a collector, you are not the buyer I seek,

MY Pedulla Buzz had issues with the J pickup and I got a replacement from Bartolini, but as I ordered it, I had this impulse to get EMG X series preamp and Alnico pickups and the BTS EQ was better than the 2 band Bartolini , This is a 1989 bass. If I will sell it, I will revert it and use or sell the EMG items , because I actually have the spec sheet for it that says it has Bartolini and that is something that adds value. So I am keeping all the pickups and electronic packed well in the event I will sell it. The bass will not benefit from upgrading bridge, nut or tuners, I do feel the EMG was a worthy mod to me as a player but not as dramatic as the Fender above.

Having said, I am not selling these two.
