It's not perfect but it far exceeds expectations for my first and probably only refinish attempt. The inside of the horns didn't get enough blue so there is a little primer showing. I'm OK with that. At least the primer matches. There are a some blemishes at the neck joint. The decal went on great but a tiny bit of paper around the ® didn't come out. I didn't realize it until dried.

Despite that I am absolutely ecstatic with the result.

The specs:

89-90ish Fender Precision Lyte
Daphne Blue (Reranch cans)
EMG PJ pickups
EMG BQC preamp
Hipshot Type A brass bridge
Hipshot lightweight tuners
Hipshot knobs
Jeannie custom pickguard
7.4 pounds

The only original hardware left is the cavity cover and neck plate. I didn't do anything to the neck because I liked it as is.

Some of the process is documented here: [This invalid link has been removed]

Thanks, guys. I need to do some setup tweaking but the emg's sound great. Much clearer, more open and stronger than the stock electronics. The sweepable mids are sweet. Boost around 100hz and BOOM.

The pickguard is from Jeannie's. I thought about making it but I had enough DIY with the strip and paint. It was hard enough cutting out the poster board mockup and getting it to fit so I let a pro handle it. Turned out perfect.

This was the first cutout but then I extended it down toward the knobs on the final version.

Also had a white one made but the pearloid pops.

Those are the knobs that came with the pre.
