Where does the Fodera butterfly come from???

I was just wondering where does the butterfly logo of Fodera come from, I mean how did it come about? I've tried to search for it on this forum but never found an answer really.

I get the names of the basses are associated with different butterflies, Emperor Imperial etc etc...

Prolly Jason has some answers...:smug:

And.. this concerns my Emperor....
Mine has a gold truss-rod cover wich I havent seen on any other Fodera before. The bass is from 1993 10 years after their first built instrument in 1983.
Could this be a 10 year aniversary type of thing and if so are there more of these special Fodera's? I would like to know some more about what Fodera history facts, I guess a lot of you guys out there would like to know as well.

Talking about special models Fodera made...

one of the most special custom fodera ever made (to my knowledge ofcouse) along side the green fanned fretted 5 string one (that was on ebay a while back) is this Fodera that Me'shell Ndegeocello had, I wonder what they called that thing:D I remeber her playing that thing and it was rediculously big sounding aswell! it had one tuning gear up and three lower gears on the headstock and the bass was all passive really something else I've never seen before.

Fodera means lining (like a jacket) or cover (like on a book) in Italian. It's possible some regional dialect has it as something else, or it could be Sicilian. It's also a verb in Italian, from foderare, in the second-person imperative, like if you were ordering someone to line something. The Italian word for butterfly is farfalla, although a lot of people just say "butterfly" in English.

the bass in the Me'shell looks exactly like the body of the first 6 string basses Vinnie built in 85 ish timeframe before A Jackson switched over from Ken Smith. I know i have one. Does anybody remeber when Fodera used wood as the butterfly wings , not abalone. that was early 80's also. if some one can walk me thru posting a picture i can get a picture of both up on site.

Yes these things we all know... but..

There must be a story behind it, I mean I take it there went some deeper thoughts into the logo/the brand than just being a nice shape or something.
