New Aguilar Rig

Nite off finally, thank goodness. So I recently just got a new bass, an HMR Jazz. Here it is

IM trying to find a nice rig to match up with this bass. it has custom aero pickups and the audere preamp. has a really good 70's vibe, but also the modern jazz toness too. IM mgoin for the somewhat hifi, but classic tone at the same time. Im currently use a wt405 and a swr goliath III and Son of bertha, which im not too happy with. Im pretty sure im gonna buy the Aguilar AG500, with 2 db112's. Anyone have any experience with that rig? It seems liek it woudl be killer, and with the boss tweed, would look rediculous in my eyes. Im worried about if it would put out enough power. Im goin mainly medium to large clubs, and lots of festivals. Would it keep up with the Goliath setup, volume wise? Also, does anyone know about the brown AG500's? I saw one on ebay, but cant seem to find them anywhere else.

The bass looks stupid nice...love the look. Two aggie 112's is an excellent choice. But if you get a chance check out the aggie 212 cab. It can replace any 410 cab and at 600 watts and only 70lbs (4 ohm or 8 ohm) it's versatile and portable with thick lows and a sweet top end. I own two aggie 112's and a 4 ohm aggie 212 powered by Genz Benz Neo Pak or GK Backline 600, just for reference. Good luck...

AG500 with DB112s is going to be really strong in the midrange. Just be sure you're looking for very focussed mid-punch if you go that way. I would see the AG as being better with the GS112s, and the 750 better with the DBs.

I'm using two GS112s with a markbass LMII which is also a 500 watt head. IMO it gets the job done. I have PA support on all gigs. The DB112s will probably cut through better than the GS112 because the GS series is somewhat mid scooped old school sounding (think Ampeg)
Will it keep up with your 410/15 rig? NO WAY! But I'd say it's about as loud as a typical 410 cab.

It's also nice to be able bring only 1 cab whan that's all you need.

GS112 has some sweet lows in them.

I just wish that AG500 would have a parametriq eq. It´s a little weak in the high mids, so I got an Xotic Tri-Logic Bass Preamp to make the notes "pop" out a little better. Now my rigg sounds great!

We've PM'd about the Aguilar rig, so I won't bother to post that. However, it's nice to see that bass in good hands. I've played it a number of times. Built by Ron of HMR Guitars on the East side of Detroit. I had the pleasure of hanging with Ron a bit a couple of weeks ago. He really loves what he does!

Just to point out a VERY cool feature Ron's J basses. The 'pickguard' is actually carved into the body. That's a wonderful idea on a J bass with a fancy top. You still get the feel and distance between the body and strings as a standard J bass (this is important for many who use slap style in their playing), but you don't cover up the beautiful wood, or have to use one of those (IMO) cheezy looking clear guards. Very nice.

Yea im pretty set on this rig, im basiically gonna be trying it blind, but i dont think ill be too unhappy. Ive been listening to some erykah badu, and he uses a 412 with the db750 and also a marcus miller jazz bass. My sound wont be too far off from that right? will be kinda mini version? check out the clip here, its basically the sound that im going for
