Italia Basses, anyone here have one?

I have two Italia basses, a Maranello and a Modulo. Both seem to be well made. The Maranello has a gold sparkle finish, is heavy, and has a dark, thumpy sound. The Modulo has a faux grey pearloid finish, four lipstick tube pickups (one for each string), and has a more midrangey sound, and is lighter than the Maranello.

I have a Maranello in blue sparkle. Very "rock-star", I love it! It has a deep low end but not a lot of high end. Some pretty severe neck dive if you're not careful... but it's my only bass without an upper horn so maybe I'm just not used to it. I have to shift it around to find a good balance point. I did manage to crack the plastic control cover by tightening the screws too much, so don't do that.

It's not my main bass. But for the looks and a monstrous low end it's worth it.

This one gives me GAS, except I vastly prefer the black body/white pickguard.
Some kind of fiberglass body, a bridge piezo, and the neck pickup of God.

The originals had "Res-O-Glass" bodies the Italia bodies are wood ...

:) ... My Italia is very cool to play

The current Mondial is "acousti-glass" top and agathis back/sides according to their site. I can't see buying one any time soon as money isn't exactly bountiful. But one of these, with flats, would be pretty nice. Here's the black model.

I have a lefty gold sparkle Maranello. I agree with other comments - it's heavy, and has a dark tone, though I would say that it's also distinctive sounding with both PUPs on. (Mine almost sounds slightly chorused). I don't play it much, but it's nice to have for when I want to make a bold visual statement and need those darker tones.
