We have some copies of the new Bass Player mag here at work. I was thumbing my way through the issue(The Bass Players of Michael Jackson) and came across a small article saying that Ampeg is relaunching U.S. manufacturing of a "new series of ultra-high -end SVT products designed and assembled in the U.S.A."...and it was done in direct response to customer feedback.

The Hertiage Line:

SVT-Classic head(with specially-selected JJ preamp and "Winged C" power amp tubes) MSRP of $3,299

SVT-810(MSRP $1,799) and SVT-410(MSRP $1,249) cabs, all made in Woodinville, WA.

"They'll run concurrently with the offshore line's very-similar-but-not-identical models, so vintage purists can put their money where their mouths are and choose accordingly."

This sounds really interesting to me. I've yet to see an SVTVR in stores and hear it, but Ampeg hasn't been able to recreate the magic of the early 70's SVT's. I used to have Classic, and even after putting in some respectable tubes (JJKT88s and JJ 12AX7's) it still didn't come close.

You typically see a lot more faithful recreations in the boutique guitar amp world (Bad Cat, Matchless, Carr, Divided By 13, etc.). So it IS possible, whether or not Ampeg executes it will be interesting to see. I'd be interested in a B15. Has anyone seen any pics of this stuff yet?

this pisses me off. the prices of the slm made stuff were exactly the same prices that loud charged when they moved. and now that loud is finally moving some stuff back to the usa, they're going to jack up the prices to that degree? and then when they won't sell, they're going to say, "see? you people didn't support us when we brought it back to america!"

unless they charge the exact same amount as the chinese products, this is a ******** scam. slm was able to keep the prices reasonable and build in america. what's with loud where they can't?

put my money where my mouth is? how dare they!!!

Gee, I wonder how many people who complained about off shore manufacturing are going to put their money where there mouth was, and buy these USA made products when they're side by side with overseas products in the store. Not many me thinks.

JimmyM makes a good point, though, the prices never came down and now they'll go up. Still, if you don't like it, then quit yer belly aching!

The problem wasn't shipping the manufacturing overseas. The problem was shipping it overseas with no reduction in price whatsoever. And now they want to bring it back at an even higher one.

It's the New Coke/Classic Coke scam but with a $@&!*#@% price hike.

No one should pay MSRP - but even at what the going street price would be - they had better be extremely well built to justify that price. Regardless of price issues, I am glad to see that customer feedback appears to have had an impact, even if its just to appease a select few of us who feel passionately about having a USA Ampeg available.
