What's this hole for under the pickguard on my MIM Jazz Fretless? I'm thinking it might be a good spot for the series/parallel switch I was thinking about installing. Also, that is what's called "Open Routed", right (pickups to control cavity)?

I believe that's the hole where the CNC machine holds the body while routing it

Yep, that's on all MIM's recently and a good portion of MIA's IIRC. I played a bass where someone installed a series/parallel switch over that hole for the same reason, and I assure you, it was awkward to hit it there.
I much prefer mine on the control plate somewhere.

If you take the pickguard off of a sunburst Jazz, it will make you play like Jaco!saxnbass said:

The hole is where they removed the mojo - essentially a "mojoectomy". Older basses don't have the hole because they still have their mojo. Haven't you noticed the extra screw in the middle of the pickguard on an old J? It's not there to hold the pickguard down, it's the Mojo Adjuster Screw. Fender reaized that they could make more money if they removed the mojo on some basses, and sold the ones that still have their mojo at a higher price. It's all part of Fender's big marketing scheme.

So what is the hole? I heard somebody say it where it's held in place by the CNC machine while routing it. Is that what it is?
