I started lifting this fall. Love it! And Tuna and Egg has become the most important part of my diet. Who would have guessed..But now that I have started working all day (uni.break) it´s very hard getting to the gym. After work I´m always so tired....but I guess doing push ups at home should do until uni. starts up again.

If you think about sticking tuna down my neck, you'll have an interesting discovery when you find where the tin would end up

:D

I'd just use tuna steak as has been mentioned, OR I would just hope that you are a very green person and would want to put the can in a recycling bin :hiding:

:D

I'm having this week off from weight before I go away, I'm want to try and develop my flexibility over the month I am gone, any good/cheap flexibility books out there that I should look for?

I signed up for gym today woot.
Signed up for a month back in August because i wanted to get back into shape after taking a break from martial art classes. I'll be doing both martial arts and gym. I've got to build up a bit of strength and power before the world tournament in march.

+1 on what martial art.

I'm a big fan of martial arts, been doing them over half my life, got to my 2nd black belt in shotokan karate, I've done Lee style t'ai chi and feng shou (my father teaches classes in both and I learnt from him) and I'm hoping to take up Jeet Kune Do when I get back from holiday, and will probably learn some more of the t'ai chi from my dad while I am staying with him.

Training as a martial artist -- or really, any athlete -- is so different from training to look or feel good. Flexibility, freeweight exercises, the olympic lifts, old time lifts, strongman competition events, powerlifting techniques, mobility training, agility, and a hell of a lot of attention paid to recovery all suddenly become important.

Flexibility is important, but mobility is where it's at. Think of being flexible as having a huge power amp, and great mobility is a 4x12 cab. Mobility is the ability to move a joint through a large ROM without external pressure, like being able to to bring your knee to your chest without bending your back or using your arms. Low flexibility puts a ceiling effect on mobility, limiting its progress. FWIW, standing yoga positions have helped with my lower body mobility a lot.

Also, this article is long but it will make all the difference in your progress.

EDIT: I train MT and boxing, and when available bjj. Can't afford membership right now so sparring and hitting pads with my more mma-trained roommate, next semester starting with the university wrestling team and bjj club. Heading to my 2nd free sanshou class tonight, it's cool but too expensive and similar to MT so I won't be training it regularly unless I have several sudden windfalls of cash before March :p.
