Best Metal bass

I'm looking for a new bass. I want a 5 string with 24 frets. Im looking for a sound thats like Alex Websters or just any heavy metal bass tone. My price range is $1000-$1500 but i could always spend a couple hundred more. Ive been looking at warwick, spector, sadowsky and some other brands that I cant think of off of the top of my head. The esp surveyor 5 looks good but doesnt have 24 frets, if somebody could find an esp 5er w/ 24 frets that would be great. I am also looking at the steinberger headstockless basses and Im wondering if those would be good for metal. Another one is the plexiglass bass by ampeg and I just want opinions on that. Then the dingwall combustion basses may be another option. suggestions are appreciated. :D

I love the Spector tone for metal, but Sadowsky will rock it too ( ala Jason Newsted ) If you do the Sadowsky get the modern 5 string 24. Spector also made a bass in the mid 90s if you can find one on ebay called the NS-95 and NS-94 in 4 string. They are hard to find, but killer metal tone for like 500 bucks. Neck through with real EMGs and nice sounding pre amp. Hope this helps.

If you were truly a metal god you'd get one of these (check out that pointy tip on the headstock!):

...then play through one of these:

(oh, and don't forget to use Monster Cable for EVERYTHING)

Well, you like Webster's tone, go for the Spector, they're amongst the greatest basses for me. The bongo is also good, and will certainly do metal. Steinbergers are also good, but I just wouldn't get one - at least yet. But that's just me. I'd say go for the Spector. I would. :)

Don't forget to scoop the mids and tune to teh low C.

New basses come out fairly often, I always appreciate a new best metal bass thread.

I'll throw in my vote for Warwick (listen to Mudvayne, especially the album LD50), Ibanez, or Spector. Rex Brown of Pantera uses Spectors, I love his tone and he sticks out well.
