Peavey Headliner Class D amp.

Interesting take on it. 1.5" rack height? That's kind of odd. The thing that really bums me out is the lack of mute switch. They added it to all their latest amps, why leave it out again? Looks good, has good features, but once again, leaving off a pretty inexpensive feature makes me want to pass it up.

At least we know now what Peavey's Class D amps are like. Much like Carvin's angle. Almost full size, just lighter.

The only thing I don't like about using a pedal tuner in front of the amp to get the mute is the extra power supply and power strip I have to bring. The tuner I like doesn't have a mute and it's in the Tuner Out jack on my amp, so the mute is perfect. I don't want to go down the "mute thing" here, but it's about the only thing that stood out as being lame not to have. All the other features are great, I'd love a little bit of compression once in awhile, and having it built in is cool.

Now if Line 6 can build a PowerPod with the pod front end, a class D power amp, a tuner, and, gulp, the X2 Receiver all built in. Think of how cool that would be!

One power cord, done.

I highly doubt there is any 2 ohm loads with these amps, or any new amps. Peavey has abandoned their old 4 ohm/2 ohm system and joined everyone else doing 8/4. This has got to be 600 watts at 4 ohms and 350 or 400 at 8...something like that. Basically the same as everyone else. My Shuttle 6.0 at 600 watts had no more apparent watts than my MB2-500 with 500 watts. I think it's all relative to nothing.

As much as I love Peavey gear, this thing just doesn't do it for me. I guess it still burns me that they aren't made in Mississippi anymore. Seems like just another amp now.

Maybe they'll do a BamLite or something? That BAM head had a very nice digital preamp system in it. It was way too heavy though.

This amp has some cool features. It has an 'eq bypass' so you get a true flat setting at the flick of a switch. Also the active/passive switch on the input is a great feature.

Peavey has always had the EQ bypass on the heads that had the slider-type eq. I actually probably would be just as happy putting all the sliders in the middle, but you obviously would use it. To make it even better, they should put the DDT on/off button on the back. How many people shut that off? The whole point is to keep it on for safety purposes. Same with the headphone jack, put that on the back. Put the mute switch on the front, and add a footswitch 1/4" jack on the back and I'd be in heaven. I'll probably try one anyway since the price seems to be so reasonable.
