PC it appears...Audacity I'm looking for tutorials on....the only real use I've gotten out of it was ripping records to mp3 with my usb turntable.

I've never heard of bidule. Is that another free one? If so can you provide a link to a download so that I can check that one out too please.

I use this and Audacity, I use Kristal for the better mixing, and Audacity to place the sound clips. Good Combo IMO.

Looks like it's audio only.
I, myself, use midi for a lot of automation. It's nice to have the automation along side the audio tracks as you can adjust the VST effects during the song.
And add VSTi instruments if needed.

bidule is a modular audio environment--it's not free but practically at 70 bucks for all it can do--you should still check it out

The one issue is that bidule doesn't really record nicely--at least compared to the nice multitrack recorders out there...if this one doesn't really work, I am going to try reaper
