I play with eq. in flat 99% of the time, so it doesn't really worry me. Besides the 13 isn't mine, I'm building a MERE 11 for my self, that only goes down to C# (17.3hz) so the woofer shouldn't really risk much.
And I rarely play loud at all, being at this point of my life a bedroom bass player

Maybe not, but eliminating the baffle step is not a bad thing, so what it loses in style points, it makes up for in other ways.

Here's a shot of my Hathor 212 from a few nights ago at the House of Blues Foundation room in Anaheim. It was the perfect form factor for the tiny stage and plenty of volume and punch for the room.

Trent, I've been wondering how Hathors pair with a Quilter. Looks like you're a bit scooped and on the 40W master setting. I have a 112, by the way, but would welcome 212 comments.

Actually I completely bypass the Quilter's preamp with my VT Bass DI going into the line in on the back. The Quilter's pre is kind of limited so I can get the exact tone I want from the VT. I also ran into the house with the DI from the VT. So I guess I'm just using the power section from the Quilter. It does sound great on its own but I just prefer the tone from my VT, much more versatile. The Master still controls the volume when bypassing the pre and the pic was before sound check so it was bumped up a bit.

The Quilter with the 212 can get very loud and clean. It can get way louder than I would ever need. It's got plenty of low end too!

Also regarding the Hathor 212:
All of the venues we play have decent FOH so I've been using this set up more instead of lugging my SVT and Berg nv610t. It definitely doesn't look as cool but load in and out is so much easier. This gig was the first time that my cab really had to carry the room as the FOH was mainly for vocals and kick. It sounded great!

Sweet setup. I just got a the brand new q strip by tech 21 which sounds amazing through my quilter and Hathor 112. I am just running it into the flat preamp of the quilter but I want to try the balanced out to the quilters line in.

I installed grill cloth on my stock Hathor grill. I wanted the mod to be fully reversible, so I didn't use any adhesives. I just tightly stretched the cloth over the stock grill with its rubber edge trim removed. The sharp edges of the metal grill will grip & hold the cloth in place. Then I simply reinstalled the rubber edge trim over the cloth, trimmed the excess cloth and reinstalled the grill.

I have to re-tuck a loose edge every once in awhile, but my grill cloth has stayed on fine like that for 6 years now:

How & why i became an AK user: i was running big iron, big cabs - great sound, but also big PIA. for a couple of days i had to use my drum machine/metronome amp ( Crate BX-50, ) as a bass practice amp. i could coax some great tone out of that old Crate, but turn up the volume anything past bedroom level and everything dropped right off the cliff. it finally started to dawn on me that component quality and design were probably as critical to sound quality as cab or speaker size. decided then & there, hell or high wawa, i was going the mini route. sold all amps and cabs ( kept 1 LDS/Faital 2x15 PR400, ) did some research on TB, went AK & Mesa. voila, happy camper!

Just for the record, making modifications to improve the looks of my rather utilitarian cabs does not void the warranty. It may even extend it.

Anyway the cab is big but waaay lighter than it seems. I tilted it on a side yesterday to install taller feet and tilt-on wheels and I did it with one hand.
It's such a shame I usually have to play at low volume as the cab really comes alive if you raise the volume a bit more. Can't really tell how nice it would play with 500w in

That actually looks pretty classy. You could even wrap the grill for the 3's to match.

I like the Belgian waffle grill -- at least I think I do. I've never been accused of having a particularly acute fashion-sense, though.

I wish I could find the picture I took in Vancouver of the grill at the Japanese barbecue joint we went to. It was EXACTLY like the grills Duke uses. Ever since, whenever I look at my cab I wish I had a piece of meat to throw on it!
