The Combo Club

And today's exciting winter sleigh ride to New Stringville. Took a minor detour on the way for a stop at a doc-in-a-box. The fretboard is not so grody now after wiping off quite a bit of DNA and who knows what considering the places we've been. Someone somewhere says Rotosounds eats frets. Played my share of Rotos, yes, and while it doesn't look like fret damage, there's definitely fret wear. This is a bass that's been played.

Someone at Music Man slopped some finish on the nut. Some's flaked off but it's plain against the white nut how much the original finish aged.

For the ever-curious types here, this 79 has the three bolt neck with the tilt-a-whirl and skunk stripe.

And a finished job, showing off next to Solstice Eve. Yes, swapped out the DR pink Neons for DR Black Beauties. This is like twins except different. Just two basses with black strings and I'm down with that. The Black Beauties feel very much like the Neons. Over there in the TB string forum folks say the BBs are Sunbeams, same as the Neons. Might be?

The BBs look kinda classy to me on the maple fretboard. Like all serious and such?

Yes PJB ticks all the boxes!

M, based on your recommendation, I'm looking at the Double Four and Session 77 at the moment. I don't know if I really need another clean amp, being I have my Markbass for small duties, but color me intrigued. The build quality is what's impressed me from what I've read so far. Kind of the opposite side of the universe compared to my late Acoustic combo, but variety is the spice of life.

But we appreciate your work for The Clubhouse. The Theater and Laundromat wouldn't be the same without you. I have never so much partying at a silent movie before!

That sounds good to me! I feel like I missed out on this year, or most of it. Definitely a Lost Summer, and not at all like the book or movie.

Ding! Ding! Ding! For the win!!!

[Sinatra] It was a very good year . . . .[/Sinatra]

And thank you for your service, Odin. The Chief of Security at Morrighan's All-Night Silent Movie Theater has been a really tough job since getting the liquor license.

G-Dog, I agree with you on all counts and to reward our good M, I think we should look to adding on to the laundromat/movie theater. I mean, how can I enjoy watching "Amadeus" when there's a professional-grade washer doing Gone Plaid's wash for the week? It's not done that way in Europe! So let's kick around the upgrades in 2019, okay?

Sorry, hiero, but I almost missed your induction to the Club. Tricky Fearless Leader typed it within the quotes of your post! But I found it!! He is such a prankster. So . . .

Welcome, hieronymous and others, to the Combo Club! Checkout the Combo Club Clubhouse on the Combo Club Wiki, where you will also find many other things about us, and now you too!

You zig, I zag, my friend. Confusion is just one way to keep Sargeant-at-Arms committed to their duty, G-dog. At least that's what it says here in my Fearless Leader handbook on Page 287.

Either that or I was half asleep while posting. Take your choice.

Yes, Fearless Leader! I love the rhythm of the tennis shoes in the dryer along with the silent version of "Amadeus". That way there's never "too many notes". Perhaps we could mic the laundromat and pipe it into a new 9.1 dts sound system in the theater? Could add a new dimension to the EDM in there, especially in the 3rd level upper balcony "champagne room"!

Yeah, you say potato, I say potato . . .

It's six of one or six of the other.

If I had a nickel, then I'd have a nickel.

Merry Christmas to all!

Fellow combo-ers: Have a Safe, Merry and Happy!:)

May I second GP's sentiments here. It's roughly a half-hour before the animals can talk to one another; the perfect time to wish all our Combo Club members a very Merry Christmas!

May Santa bring you exactly what you asked for...yet another fine bass combo they'll still sound like you no matter how you twiddle the knobs and take up even more space in the practice room. In other words, welcome to our club!

Hugs, handshakes, and high fives,

iagtrplyr (Fearless Leader) :hyper:

Merry Combo Christmas! Or Happy Voxmas? Whatever you want to call it, your present - a comprehensive review of the Vox VX50BA - will have to wait until the new year. In the meantime, enjoy what toys ya got!

My VX50BA was the hit of the family Christmas Day gathering today, right behind the 15-year-old's Nintendo Switch! His dad commented on the Vox so I fired it up and handed him the Starcaster. He commenced to slapping and popping, so I cranked the gain! We ran the teenagers out of the music room to a back bedroom, without even going above halfway on the master!! Stepson couldn't get over the lightweight of the amp, but the very heavy tones I was setting for his playing.

There is sneaky Fearless Leader, again, with backhand compliment of poor red 'n black step child. He is so jealous that Santa didn't bring him one.

You and Ghostie are killing me, Doggie. I'm weakening, brother. I'me down to a couple of contestants and the Foxy Voxy is still in the running. I was hoping for a wedge to replace my failed Acoustic science experiment (maybe that's why Santa left me high 'n dry), but I can't find anything that I haven't already owned in the $100-200 price range. I'm thinking of the Vox only to prove you wrong after I take it to Westminster Cathedral and blast some Judas Priest through it without PA support. So there! ;)
