The Combo Club

Awww, maybe we should start a Go-Fund-(a-Vox)Me page for Fearless Leader. Santa let him down. (Bad Santa!)

You just hang onto your money, Ghost. I'm doing the after-Christmas shopping for musical equipment this year...or should I say next year. So you don't think the chubby guy in the red suit completely forgot me, I present to you Exhibit One. Dare to look at the pic below and scan for the little wedgie under the rumbler. It didn't cost that much and I'd say it's improved my ability to hear midrange better than before. Packs up nice and neat too.

Well, if you're into that sort of thing, just ask for Inga in the clubhouse massage parlor. Tell her @GonePlaid sent you for the "Thursday Special", but to go easy since it's your first time. ;)

Good recommendation, G-dog, but may I remind you the last person who went in for Inga's "Make a Man Outta You" massage, he ended up in traction for three months and may never to the lambada again. Our newly-hired masseuse has a firmer grip than Lou Ferrigno but does enjoy vegetable gardening in her spare time. Hmm...I wonder if Inga owns a Vox VX50-BA? I'd ask her but I don't speak Russian.

Comrades! Of course, Fearless Leader has no need of more money. He has keys to clubhouse treasury, where is all stocks, bonds, cash and jewels from, uh, ... shrewd investments he has made all over world.

And if Fearless Leader says he posted picture, then he posted picture!

IS VERY NICE PICTURE YOU POSTED, FEARLESS LEADER!!! YOU HAVE VERY BEST GEAR IN ALL CLUB!

Fearless Leader must get some rest now. Is very demanding position leading such large and diverse enterprise. Must keep up strength.

:cautious:

Yeah, that’s because I spent most of the late evening amp hunting. Oh, it’s a worthy opponent, but I intend to bag one and soon. As for the pic, I used my latest Christmas gift, the disappearing image app. Obviously it worked flawlessly.

So now that I’m done toying with my bass brethren here is the actual gift from a certain music supporter I love very much. As much as my MIM Jazz bass , but let’s keep that our little secret.

I liked the portability-and price-of that but I liked the decoupling effect of the Ampwedge.1104181104-00.jpg (front)

Would that my solstice was a quiet one, for no sooner awake than at work. Which is kinda stupid for someone who retired but it's not working for The Man. Don't work for The Man, the secretary disavows all knowledge of my actions.

And this is the time of year when we take stock of ourselves and maybe a kiss at the stroke of midnight. That's a bit more than a week away and what a year this one is. Of all the years I've spent on this planet, I have to say that 2018 is definitely one of them.

My playing's improved. Methinks.

GotMySelf some new bass and never had so much fun. My MM came home from Santa's Workshop in time for all the holidays including Zappadan. Keep the Neons or slap on those spare Black Beauties or how about some La Bella white copper tapes? How about practicing, hey, now there's an idea.

Put the kids together for a holiday card to send to our friends. Put Odin's plushy hedgehog on the MM's horn because it's, well why not. (say hi to Odin!). My amp's just behind me in this shot, well one of them ...

Say hello to all the nice bass players, Odin

That MM pick guard is way cool. Hiya Odin!

Hey all,

I am suddenly in need of a small combo to leave at my Fri. night jam space, and to bring out to acoustic jams around town occasionally. Mostly bluegrass and Americana, and I'll be playing EUB or fretless BG mostly, but decent performance with an acoustic upright is mandatory. Let's assume I'll use an external preamp for AUB though. If there's a drummer, it's either cajon or a tiny trap kit with just a snare and hi hat.

Now, the kickers: I'm currently using an Audiokinesis TC112AF with one of my DIY heads for these situations. The on-floor footprint is 14 x 14 inches, so anything much wider or deeper is most likely off the table. To really motivate me to buy, I probably need to see something under 20 lbs. and not more than $200 used. I greatly prefer no headphone jack, aux in, EFX, drive circuits, compression, etc., they are just more stuff to break in my world. The Fishman Loudbox Mini works OK, and I've used an Acoustic Image Contra amp before perfectly happily for stuff like this. The old SWR Strawberry Blonde was on the right rack sound and feature wise, but a bit too heavy given what I already own. If push comes to shove I'll just build my own small combo, but the time and expense make that less than desirable right now. So, what have you got?

I have a 1980's(?) GK 200MB that I swear by but they are both hard to find and hard to find at the $200 range.

I don't know anything about SWR's or Portland OR geography but I found this in So-SOUND craigslist: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

It may not be what you're looking for but the price is right.

Thanks. Tukwila is actually just south of Seattle, about three and a half hours from here. I can just borrow a WM12 combo for now, not a bad interim solution. I've used my friend's MB200 many times reasonably happily, but as you say, tough to find at that price point. Although I'm fine with buying something broken and repairing it if need be.

My view of the world has just been significantly altered.

Just kidding Charlie. Good luck with the hunt!

If anyone can help out ODDBALL (appropriate name in our club) with some Warwick combo info it’d be greatly appreciated. I know nothing about them other than they sound pretty hood, based on reviews I’ve read. Thanks!
TBH, I'd never heard of it. I googled it and it looked interesting until I got to the part that it weighs 46# where a Rumble 100 weighs 22#. Also, the demo was almost all slap and pop-useless(for me)to 'hear' the amp.[I don't like demos wherein the bassist is 'showing off'. Play the same line repeatedly with different settings. Fingerstyle, pick, slap-n-pop, etc.. Show off the amp, not your playing. I'm gonna"hire"the amp, not the player](end of rant!):smug:
