Blackmore, who had been a founding member and a dominant creative force, clashed with the new Mark III lineup's direction. After the heavier Burn (1974) worked well, Stormbringer shifted toward more groove-oriented, funky, and soulful material—largely driven by Hughes' love of black American soul/funk and Coverdale's contributions. Blackmore openly despised this shift. Sources quote him saying something along the lines of: "Go ahead with your shoeshine music; I’m off." (a derogatory term he used for what he saw as overly polished, laid-back funk/soul/R&B styles).
I'm with Blackmore on this. I'd quit the band first!

thank you for taking the time to listen to it. HCal was fun because I was improvising in the chords the whole time, like jamming and I don't do a lot of that, I tend to learn songs note for note, but since there was no bass to learn, I had fun making up my own. I wrote the part to Longest Time also, Joel's longtime bassist did a very bare bones part, I realize Joel did not want him to get in the way of the lovely harmonies (all done by Billy, btw, in overdubs) but Billy was not there to chastise me so I stepped all over his vocals!!!11
Just saying there are a lot of musical styles out there to appreciate other than classic rock. Maybe in time you'll be open enough to try.
Didn't intend it that way at all. As a young person, I was also limited in my listening and "despised" certain genres altogether, but I eventually came to appreciate other things.

Fly Me to the Moon bass by Cara.
Not perfect but I think I copped the swing feel not bad for first time.
Written in 1954 by Bart Howard and made famous by Frank Sinatra backed up by Count Basie's band arranged by Quincy Jones (the same guy who produced Michael Jackson's "Thriller".This was very difficult to figure out the exact bass notes because 1. it was played on an upright bass which does not articulate the notes very well and B. it was buried in the mix, bass was not out front like it is now.
So, my Dad and I figured out what we could and made up runs based on the chords. I think it's pretty cool! It was a new experience for me. Really odd chords too, Dbmaj7(b9) and stuff like that. It took me a while to get the 'Swing' feel by putting in what my other mentor Giorgio Ciscì tells me are "skips" the little 1/16th notes before the 1/8th notes here and there. Mr. Cisci is a master at walking bass, theory, modes, harmony etc. please check out some of his tutorials!

Love of My Life/Queen vocals & bass play by Cara
A very pretty song by Queen, lots of difficult parts on the bass, almost all above 12th fret I had played just the bass part about 5 months ago. Finally I'm trying bass WITH vocals, which adds another layer of difficulty! As you can see, the bass has zero to do with the vocals, you have to split your mind!
The range goes from the bridge: E3 "Everything's all BY the way"
to the main verse: A5 "Love of my LIFE, can't you see?"
Anyway I am very sensitive about my vocals so please don't be to harsh, I know I need to improve. Besides being hard on bass, it's also a monster on vocals, anything by Freddie is, you can hear me going from the bottom of my range to the top, all the while trying to keep up with the bass part! What a workout! Anyway hats off to John Deacon and Freddie Mercury for another great workout!!

Good job! I can’t even pretend to have half of Freddie’s range, much less sing while I play bass. I sang when I played rhythm guitar but that’s quite different.

Oh yes, this is also very different from playing bass singing, typically following a groove walking or thumping during a song singing, this is a most complex bassline that follows nothing but its own logic, playing counterpoint to the piano in places, no drums, no groove to follow, every phrase different rhythm. 5 months ago I struggled just to get the bass line down with no vocals, this week I worked very hard and managed to put my bass playing on autopilot to concentrate on this very difficult vocal, which has a 2+ octave range! E3 to A5. I hope in another 5 months I can do something to top this, that I can't do now but will be able to do then.

I just discovered a couple of 2 hour instrumental-only versions of EC/Attractions songs on YouTube yesterday.
It’s a fantastic way to hear not just BT’s basslines more clearly, but also the great keyboards,drums, guitar parts.
Keep on keepin on!…. as we used to say….(I’m a septegenarian who basically has always just been a hobby bassist).

I don't generally like the Doors, but I love this song! Other than the opening riffs A C E A and D F# A D all the rest of the riffs are different and every one kills! That's Elvis' touring bassist Jerry Scheff, who Elvis asked to teach him bass. Scheff also played on a ton of other records. The Doors didn't have a bass player, the keyboard player Ray Manzarek used his left hand and his organ pedals on most of their albums, but on LA Woman they brought in Scheff and he really killed it on this song! This took me a while to get down, it was pretty tough but I finally got it!

Way to go on being cognizant on the importance of your vocal chops.
The amount of guitarists I have played with that don't spend any time trying to improve their vocals is staggering! They work on guitar yes, but seem clueless to putting in time to improve their singing.
