YET EVEN MORE SKA!! She's Got a Girlfriend Now/Reel Big Fish bass by Cara

Here's something for the Lady's Ladies! I just thought it would be funny to sing, luckily you can't hear everything I'm saying! The bass is amazing fun too and it just came naturally singing and playing or I wouldn't have done it, Dad talked me into it!
Bass players, if you play this song you will be happy for once!! More ska: http://tinyurl.com/cararickska

MORE SKA!!!!!!!!!!!! One Step Beyond, Our House, Welcome to the House of Fun
all great Madness basslines!

One Step Beyond/Madness bass by Cara

It's kind of fun, all instrumental and mostly bass runs and a sax solo.
Written by Jamaican ska singer Prince Buster, Madness did this with intro lines taken from about 5 different Ska songs. According to Alan Winstanley, one of the producers, the released Madness version was a rough mix, created by taking the original 1 minute 10 second instrumental and repeating it!!

Our House/Madness bass by Cara

This is the 2nd in my Madness trilogy, a really fun song not too hard to play, you just have to hit all the accents! This one Suggs actually sings. I have one more Madness song for later this week.

Welcome to the House of Fun/Madness bass by Cara

This is the 3rd in my trilogy of Madness songs, with Our House & One Step Beyond:
This was a lot more difficult than it might seem at first, like a dozen different licks and not just the same lick in different positions, but each one unique run. The timing on the break is also odd and takes some work. But all in all, pretty fun, I hope you like it!

I saw Madness on the Absolutely tour. I loved their early hits.

Ever check out any early Fishbone?

Thank you very much. I started playing when I was 10, then got my Rickenbacker 18 months later March '25, since then I've made 280 videos of songs I learned by ear (most with Dad's help, or when I get stuck). I try to play challenging music I like: I detest hip hop, rap, funk, diva music like lady gaga, soft soy boy indie bands (where are all today's Robert Plants and Ian Gillans?) and I feel I have no connexion with the music of my generation. I play the music I value and the bassists I respect.
@cararickbass , I saw your posts in the Rickenbacker Club and I had to check out your YouTube cover thread. Like I said in the Rickenbacker Club, color me impressed!

If it makes you feel any better, I felt the same way about the music of my generation as a kid (and later teen) in the 2000s and early 2010s. I despised the pop, rap, hip hop, and "diva" music that so many of my peers (particularly the girls) listened to. So I listened to the classic rock and R&B that my parents raised me on. I found metal later on in life and that changed everything for the better.

I recommend you check out Motorhead if you want some amazing Ric bass playing with a pick. Lemmy (RIP) is one of my biggest influences as a bassist. Motorhead was also my "gateway" band into the world of heavy metal. I would also love if you checked out my originals. The links to those are in my signature.

Thanks! I am very well aware of Lemmy. The reason I haven't done any is I enjoy more complex work like John Deacon, Chris Squire and Macca. Lemmy is great, but her pretty much just hammers away at his bass without any cool little melodies like my fav bass players. I like some heavy metal, but same thing, it has to be interesting. I know it's part of his charm, but Lemmy is a bit crude and blunt. If he plays anything like this, I'm in. Mostly it's like Ace of Spades. I actually play a lot of metal: http://tinyurl.com/cararickheavy

I totally understand about Lemmy's crudeness and bluntness. He's not for everyone and he didn't care.

You may want to listen to "Stay Clean" from the Overkill album. Lemmy plays a nice bass solo in the middle of the song (time stamp 1:14) that could be inspirational. There, I think he was inspired by his original bass hero (and mine too) - Paul McCartney.

Yes, that's cool, but if you know what I mean, it's very linear, he plays the rectangle. I see no relationship to that to anything Macca ever played, and I play a lot of Macca: http://tinyurl.com/cararickbeatles like 60 plus 3 features with commentary. Maybe Paul did inspire him, but that's not Paul's style. I do like Plasmatics, somewhat similar, but they have that extra style that attracts me I don't find in Motorhead. Reminds me of Saxon, really straight ahead but not very interesting. Heavy, no doubt. But I want more.

Check out my metal songs, see what I mean. I do some straightforward stuff, like Angelwitch and Holocaust (Death of Glory) but there's just an intangible thing about it, a certain classiness. Yes, I know Lemmy would not care he's not my cup of tea, I have no problem with that. I just go another way.

Pinball Wizard/Elton John bass by Cara

MORE DEE MURRAY This is my 2nd Elton John cover this week, Tuesday we did Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting, and a few weeks ago we did Elton's cover of the Beatles' Lucy in the Sky. This is another cover, a Who song, from the movie Tommy and again, I think Elton's version is more interesting. ALSO: I did some jamming on the bass in the piano/guitar solo! completely improvised which is a big deal because I have not done it before! This has all of Dee Murray's trademark runs and melodies playing tight wiath the drums but sometimes syncopating with them as well.

Nice👍 I've always preferred the movie versions of the songs to the Who versions.

Back to Lemmy, really he played "rhythm bass" IMO. But I don't hold it against him because Motorhead were tapped into the late 70s British zeitgeist unlike Lemmy's contemporaries who started to look very old-fashioned by the time The Police blew our minds in 1978.

I love Lemmy as an icon and a great person and he had the coolest heavy metal vocal voice ever. But his bass style does not interest me. Here's an interesting bassline to sing to:
Freewill vocals/Rush vocals & bass by Cara.

I used Moises.ai to take out the bass and vocals so I could play and sing along with just the guitar and drums. If it's too long, skip to the last verse at 3:13 please! That's my best part! Only took a couple days to get down singing and playing, I already knew the song.

I'm jealous! I can barely handle singing and playing bass on Boys Of Summer - possibly the easiest bassline in history.

Well that's my new 20 MORE Beatles basslines, these are not necessarily better or worse than the first 20 I did, it's just the random order I happened to learn them. Out of these 20 though, I would say my favorite is Back in the USSR, it really rocks, and the most difficult was She Said She Said. So far I've done Sgt Pepper complete, Night at the Opera, Day at the Races and 2 Beatles bass features. If you have a suggestion for my next feature leave it in the COMMENTS! Well, that's it for now, see you next time in my next feature.
