    Taper over the nut??

    I had a similar situation with short strings on my 'through the body' Washburn scavenger. On mine, when open, the strings would buzz as the taper would bring the string closer to the frets. You need to get Super/Extra Long strings so the taper is after the nut. From memory the D'addario website...
