    Preamp/DI recommendation

Minus the cab sim element tho... maybe check out the GK Plex Pre/DI?

    Struggling with fingering.

Many of the bassists who've already posted prior have offered up really solid advice, 100%!!! Relaxing is definitely key. The only times I find myself using 1 finger-per-fret (1-2-3-4 or any permutation of those) is usually during an occasional grouped note phrase or melodic runs... usually...

    What Makes an Excellent Bassist?

Serving the song at hand. We bassists are the "glue" between pulse (time/rhythm on the bottom) and the "money" (melodic/harmonic hooks up top). It's a lot of responsibility but def the best musical position to be contributing from, imo! :)

does anyone make an 8lb precision bass?

Does a ~ 7.7 lb. 30" scale (non-Fender) P-style bass count? I found a used Sandberg California VS Lionel online recently and honestly... it's making me a believer!!!

P Bass for Studio. What's Best Bass for Live Shows?

When the time comes to start gigging out live again, I'm gonna play this Sandberg California VS Lionel (shortscale) w/ flats for songs that require the old school tonal vibe. Way easier to play than my 34" P-Bass. Found it used online recently and am having such a blast playing it "live" (to...

    How do you trill?

I second this. It all depends on the musical context of the sonic character/color/motion that the song needs from the bass at that moment. DK Marlowe's video is pretty cool at illustrating both approaches (if you hadn't come across it yet):

Who is your Favorite Slap Player

In terms of live feel and sound = BrownMark. His approach directly influenced the way I play rumble/thumb/pop bass today:

    Club Sandberg (part 2)

I just got my 1st Sandberg California VM4 SL bass recently. So glad that I took a chance... each time I pick it up and play, I just love it more and more!!! Here's what it sounds like (first video play-along that I made after changing the strings and setting it up to my taste):

    Quintessentially “Modern” Basses/Makers?

I've been loving my Sandberg California VM4. They offer a 5-string version. Here's what my 4-string sounds like (traditional 1st two fingers over the bridge pickup at the start and then I go into thumb mode for the rest of the play-along):
