External Horn Cab - Need for HPF/Crossover

See my above post, as we wrote at the same time...

External Horn Cab - Need for HPF/Crossover

We are talking about the same effect of diminishing energy as the frequency rises, using different ways to dress it in words. I have found the un-equalized voicing of CD horns as mildly annoying or worse, unless maybe with a old school, dull bass sound. Adding a simple one pole HPF in the...

External Horn Cab - Need for HPF/Crossover

We need to understand which sort of high frequency unit you will use. Some kinds of horns, ie so called "Constant Directivity" need additional filtering in the cross over, or you will have a huge peak in the lower frequency range of the horn.

    1x15 vs 2x10

Kappalite 3015LF: cone area 881cm2. Deltalite 2510II: cone area 350cm?. I will correct my post, but they are close enough to be insignificant in difference. But nobody else than you have specified any Rumble models! Again, voicing is an effect of engineering.

    1x15 vs 2x10

What kind of nonsense statement is that? We are comparing an unknown 15" combo with 200W, to two defined 210 combos, each with more, or much more output than 200W. Fact: cone area for a 115 and a 210 is relatively similar. Difference is small enough to be neglected. Fact: everything else is...

    A Van Halen Bass?

A little bit of fanned frets? Impressive tribute bass!

lightweight head for my heavyweight 610hlf..

It is "Markbass", one word, no extra capitals. With the persistant quality problems in newer Ampeg amps (mainly the PF500 and SVT7?), it is a much safer deal for them to sell. And the Markbass amps are convenient, reliable, and work great on stage, say MANY users, including myself. Good luck.

Return Used Fender Custom Shop Bass?

Not much discussion about the dreadful shim... I have seen Fender systematically routing the neck pocket too deep into the bodies since well over a decade. The neck angle is right, it is just too low from the face of the body. Even with the string barrels flat on the bottom of the bridge, the...

Vacuum tubes are making a comeback.

I was more after "de-mystifying" the process. There are already enough myths around tubes. And there is a degree of commonality, with bulb manufacturing.

Vacuum tubes are making a comeback.

Haha, give me a break.... There is even this little gem to show the not irrelevant level of commonality: Home Brew Vacuum Tubes Are Easier Than You Think

Vacuum tubes are making a comeback.

I Car tires or cotton gloves are very different from tubes. I would say bulbs and tubes share a number of principles, and manufacturers of tubes often made bulbs, too. (Philips, Sylvania, Grundig, General Electric, Siemens etc.) And no, there is ZERO problem in sourcing any automotive bulb I...

Vacuum tubes are making a comeback.

The machinery cannot be vastly different from bulb manufacturing. While the higher voltage units are probably dropping in demand, the automotive sector is still huge globally, with production also in very strictly legislated countries in Europe, Asia and Americas. And God only knows how many...

Vacuum tubes are making a comeback.

I will not dispute the accuracy of the numbers, but rather offer something to contemplate for a minute or two... Given the ENORMOUS improvements in engineering, and even more so in applied technology and manufacturing, we can now, decades later not even AFFORD to set up a production line for a...

Subbing for new wave band - effects suggestions?

Almost all of those pedals are of less relevance for New Wave music, at least in my book. An articulate bass, some modulation and a good amp will go a long way. Ehhh. Zombie thread.

    Ampeg SVT15e for V4BH

SVT-410HE is very light on the deep bass. SVT-15E is missing all the highest frequencies, but has smoother and deeper lows. For traditional bass sounds at home, I would go for the 15E.
