I generally play both pick and finger style. Every time ive picked up a hofner, i was much more comfortable playing with a pick than with my fingers, which i believe may be do to placement/size of the pickups along with tension from the bridge. I mean i hate to reiterate the following phrase...

Ive played one. It is extremely uncomfortable. The back of the neck in particular bothered me. I suppose it may be useful because of its size and weight, but otherwise i would not buy one.
