I got both strings within a few days! So very good service from Pirastro! I went to my Luthier to set them up with a few adjustments so the any possible friction in the string is gone, hopefully it'll help.

I sent an email to Pirastro and they offered me a free of charge D and G string if I send them the broken ones. Quick reply and in my opinion the right way to handle this.

The g string broke in the area around the low b. The D string a bit higher up, around, the f. So it is kind of in the same place. As I said only the winding, not the core. Olaf

Hi, I switched to Pirastro Oliv (D and G) in Oktober last year. Really happy about the sound and feeling of the strings. However the windig of my D string broke after a couple of months. I thought: ok bad luck, new string. Last week the winding of my G string broke too!! I'm a bit p.... off...

I use em for quite a while now, but indeed , they don't last very long. I don't mind the "roll" though. I do like the sustain, but I miss some punch. Never had the weak G problem though. Maybe that's also a matter of bass/ string combination?

some pretty amazing jazz bass solo is the full length recording of Dave Holland "One's All". I saw him doing a live show on german tv at "Jazz Baltica" whole concert just bass. He pulls off a nice program with both up tempo high energy stuff and ballads and so on, very complete! well arranged...

I think practicing your technique in the right way will help a lot. Try the 2 books of Hein van de Geyn "comprhensive bass method". Very very good exercises. (the setup of the book seems a biet messy, but if you work carefully it'll help a lot

To me it seems that, although I agree to the point Ed made, that pocketgroove knows what he doesn't like about the way he plays a ballad. In that case I would actually recommend listening to those recordings of which you go "wow". It's inspiring and at least you will go into a direction you like...
