Ah, yes. He did mention that you could tell if it was a quality bass or not because of the thin knurled knobs. As for the pick guard, I can't tell the difference... If I took a close-up picture, would you be able to tell?

Well, just talked to him again on the phone, and here's what I was able to get. Apparently, when he went to get the bass set up right before he sold it to me, the neck was replaced with this current neck. He maintains that it's a 70s bass. Don't know what to think...

I just bought the following bass on CL for $450. Just got home and looked up the serial number on Fender's website, and it turns out that it was actually made in the 90s! Also, it says that it's the Squier series right at the tip of the guitar in small print. Did I overpay for this thing...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what I'm getting from that is that it's okay to (for example) match a 4 ohm amp with a single 8 ohm cab (with the assumption that you're going to lose some juice) but not with a 2 ohm cab, since there is no risk in overloading it. This is all assuming that you're not...
