I’d be interested in seeing photos of your original leg rest. Specifically, does it have a friction surface, like foam or grit? The one that came with my used L2 had what looked like emery cloth to keep it from slipping, but I have no idea if it was original. 🤷‍♂️

Very nice! There are lots of little differences, even among XL-2s. Mine is a very early one (transitional), with the removable leg rest. On yours, there are different knobs, a textured pivot, and a flip down leg rest.

There are quite a few differences. I took some photos a while ago for reference. There are more differences, but these photos show the most obvious ones. There's some good information here: L Series L2 (left) and XL2 (right) L2 Bridge XL2 Bridge

I’ve been using these too, for my L2 and XL2. The supporting arms fold in and fit between the body and tuners.

How bad (or good) was your first bass?

My first bass was actually pretty good. I started on the high school’s Precision and when I finished school (late ‘70s), I ordered a sunburst fretless Precision with a rosewood fingerboard (because late ‘70s), but this is what showed up. I was disappointed for about ten minutes. Photo of a dear...

I bought both leg rests in the photo from Andy nine years ago.

The early leg rests weren't part of the bass. They were removable, not flip-down, and apparently very easily lost or broken. I bought a mint early XL2 fretless years ago. Had the original gig bag, strap, cord (still sealed in the original plastic bag), manual, registration, sticker, screwdriver...
