Hi Brian,

some of the woods listed are incorrect. #081 is Cherry.
Peter had to stop using koa by the time I got #073 due to allergies.
And, in the picture I see cherry wood.

#032 -less sure about this one, but I think it might be paduak (though it's kind of brownish for paduak, so I might be wrong. Peter did make a set of basses without laminates, birdseye maple neck, that were paduak or walnut.

I've got this one with a p/j pickup config and its Paduk s/n 151. I heard he had issues w Paduk. Like Cedar it has oils and toxins that release when worked on and some people don't tolerate them.

Yours would be among the last he made. Best guess is he made about 180 electric instruments before focusing on acoustic basses and cellos. About the last half were made with padauk, with either P or P/J pickups.

If yours was built with P/J pickups, it’s an AP-2, and very uncommon. I’d love to see a photo!

I currently own #081 and it is interesting to hear the history of this great bass. With respects to the frets: There were four frets that simply needed to be seated, levels and crowned by a good tech. His inlay/dot work is actually pretty good.Plays and sounds great. The woods on this are amazing. Cheers!

Yea would be a nice addition to my collection (AP-1 and AP-2) but it’s a little ways away from my location and a touch pricey for me to pull the trigger on it.

Thanks to Bungalow Bill, I've been re-united with my Elias bass, after 41 years! I ordered this bass in my first year of college in 1983, and sold it a few years later to buy a Steinberger. When I got the bass last month, it was fretless from the 12th fret up, so I dressed the fingerboard, refretted the neck, oiled the neck and body, and re-shaped the neck to a Jazz bass nut width. I also added new lightweight Schaller tuners, which made the bass balance perfectly. Here's a shot of me in 1983, and one from yesterday taken by Bungalow Bill at a jazz gig:
