Short scale, flatwounds, and a pick

Man, between the two of those, you'll be able to achieve almost every bass tone you'd ever need.

Short scale, flatwounds, and a pick

Yes, I played D'Addario half-rounds for 10 years and loved them. Now, I just prefer the flats (I got old and set in my ways), but the half-rounds are a great middle ground.

Short scale, flatwounds, and a pick

Primarily one of my 3 EBMM Stingray Short Scales, but for some songs my Hofner Contemporary and for a few others my Gibson EB-0.

Short scale, flatwounds, and a pick

LOL, and I agree completely. I'm comfortable playing with my fingers, my thumb, and a pick, and all 3 have their uses. It's just that for my current bands (one pop rock trio, one punk/alt rock four piece, and one pop/party/dance five piece), the pick seems to work best most of the time.

Short scale, flatwounds, and a pick

I do the same thing. The foam that pickups ship in usually works great once cut to size.

Me too, but my bandmates typically prefer the pick most of the time.

Short scale, flatwounds, and a pick

I’ve been playing bass for 42 years, and while I’m no longer a gigging professional musician, I do still gig out regularly. And pretty every time I do play, I do it on a short scale bass strung with flatwounds and played with a pick. Yeah, I know, kind of a triple heresy for most modern...

    Best Shortie

My USA EBMM Stingray Short Scales each cost about $2500 new, here in the US the SBMM Stingray Short Scales are selling for $650 new, which is about 480 pounds sterling at the current exchange rate.

    the zero fret

I have both. The zero fret makes it slightly easier to set the bass up for the manufacturer (instead of having to cut each individual nut slot to the exact right depth, the manufacturer just planes all the frets on the neck equally), and it results in an open string that rings very similarly to...

    Best Shortie

I'm an owner of 2 EBMM Stingray Short Scales, and I've played several SBMM Stingray Short Scales (including borrowing a friend's for a gig just to compare it to the USA models), and I absolutely think that for the money, the Sterling Stingray Short Scale is the best short scale on the market in...

    New EBMM Short Scales 2025

Well, after a gig and three rehearsals, I've determined (and all bandmates agree) that my Goldbar and my Mystique play and sound the exact same (they also both weigh the same amount). I'm absolutely stunned at the consistency between the two. The gig was on a pretty dark stage, but a friend...

    New EBMM Short Scales 2025

Thanks for the flats suggestion, but I'm way ahead of you on that one ;). TI Jazz Flats have been my go to flats for over a decade. BUT, I like to keep one P bass strung with an old set of Slinky Cobalts for that Jamerson tone. As to which one to string with flats, you're absolutely right. I...
