I have a 1996 StingRay and it's simply the most solid bass I've ever played. I've owned a lot of different basses over the years, and it's just in a different league.

I don't necessarily regret adding the j pickup on mine, but on the other hand, it's functioning as a thumb rest at this point: I didn't even hook it up during my last pickguard change. Back to just the p pickup and volume knob.

If my Hoppus sig still sounds like a p bass with a j body, then surely yes.

There's also the argument that what you describe here is actually more "in tune" and that precision tuning (only really a thing since the electronic era) makes it harder for an ensemble to gel. This is because precision tuning shrinks the acceptable "center" of pitch. So just having everyone...
