I would like a custom electric 4 string bass built

I'll throw in my $0.02 here....I commissioned a custom bass for my 40th birthday. I justified it by telling myself I deserved something special for such a milestone birthday. When I started discussions with my luthier, I threw out a rough budget of $2,000 to $2,500 and he basically laughed. I...

Do you remember your first gig?

I was just reminded of my first gig via Facebook last week when it came up as memory. It was May 15, 2010 at a long-since-closed bar called The Angry Beaver (yes...that was the actual name). The place was jam-packed with a lineup wrapped around the building of people waiting to get inside. I...

    Best 212 cab?

I traded a SWR 4x12 for one of these and have never looked back. 50 lbs. vs. 103 lbs....it's a no-brainer.

What to do when your bandmates book gigs and exclude you?

Thank you all so much for the feedback. Lots to think about. I am probably making a mountain out of a molehill here. I'm just trying to protect the reputation of the band and myself here. I don't want to be known as the guy who doesn't show up to gigs. We are fortunate to be playing as much...

What to do when your bandmates book gigs and exclude you?

Greetings TB members! I have a situation that I am looking for your opinion on. I'm sure this is something that many of you have faced before so I would like to hear your thoughts, opinions, experiences, etc. My apologies upfront for the long read....I just want to make sure I give you all...

The opposite of the typical Band Management horror stories. Who's in a good band???

I count myself lucky, too. I'm in a 3-piece and we've been playing together off and on for almost 10 years. We gig 2-3 times a month, practice when we can. It probably helps that we're pretty much the same age and have similar living situations (full-time careers with wives and children)...

    Am I being a Diva?

I'll chime in here with $0.02....I don't think it's a matter of being a diva at all. I've been gigging for 10 years now and have just realized how important it is to protect and preserve my hearing. I get the "a full stack looks cool" thing but it's just not necessary. When I first started...

Who has had a bass die during a gig?

A similar thing happened to me on a gig once. It wasn't the battery in the bass but the batteries in the wireless transmitter that went dead. And of course, it died during the middle of the guitar solo of the song we were playing. I wouldn't have been so mortified if we had a rhythm guitarist...

Who would you contract to build your next bass?

I bit this bullet last year when I turned 40. Wanted to treat myself to something big so I signed a deal with Eric Blimkie from Euphoric Guitars in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada to build me a custom 5-string short scale. He defretted a bass for me a few years ago and his work is impeccable...

    Who misses SWR?

Amen to that! I have and use a 12-Stack (4x12, 8 ohms) and it's a beast. The tone from this cab makes up for the grotesque weight (103 lbs). I will never get rid of it.

    Cases for Class D amps?

I use something similar for my Little Mark 800....bought an old suitcase at Value Village for $10 and a roll of foam that you use for camping as protection. Total cost was about $40-$50. That setup has been amazing for me. Rolled all over the place and down stairs...no issues. And the head...

for those who play (live sound) and mix at the same time

I do this too. Picked up a new (but recently discontinued) Sennheiser wireless for $350. We usually play smaller venues so we only run vocal mics through the PA. Some venues we play are bigger and the drummer likes to mic his kick. Once I initially set our levels, we'll start playing a song...

Bass Amp or Cabinet you wish you still had.

I use to own one of these as well. Those things sound great with the switchable solid-state/tube preamp. Totally bulletproof, too. Bought mine used and was my main gigging amp until I bought my MarkBass Little Mark 800.

    Please help me!!!

And here I thought I would never be able to unload it. Where are you located? This cab is a pig...spec weight is 103 lbs. Shipping would be killer. If you're serious, let me know.

    Please help me!!!

Thanks everyone for your ideas and suggestions. I have my work cut out for me deciding on just one. Good thing for my wife (and me too, I suppose) is that a cab isn't the easiest thing to hide ;)
