    P gets buried live.

I had that problem with my 76 p-bass. Changed the nut to graphite. Put on a BadAss bridge. Put a Dimarizo P-bass pick in. Never had a problem with getting buried again. That bass had massive tone. Hope it's doing well for the bastard who stole it!

    Flatwound Club

I got away from bass playing for a few years. Just purchased a Geddy Lee Jazz USA. My tech thought I was nuts when I asked him to set it up with flats. Like i was commiting a sin or something. Then I showed him the art of EQing flats. He switched his bass to flats. I never liked rounds. I don't...

Ampeg SVT II Pro, or an alternative?

I had an SVT II years ago. Can't beat that tone. That was back when I was young and could carry that monster. Now I use a tone hammer 350 and an ampeg porta flex 15. I run to the board and back through the monitors. People laugh until they hear how it sounds.

    The "Trace Elliot" sound

I had a trace back in the 90s. I bought it for smaller gigs then. It had no tone to me. Sounded like a brick. Went back to dragging my SVT pro 2and 8X10 cab. Really hated that Trace .

Tone Hammer 350 and 2 Cabs?

Why run 2 cabs? I have a TH 350. I run it through an ampeg porta flex 15. I also run direct to the board and have it cranked through the monitors. That is a great sounding head. I was really surprised how well that little monster sounds. You can try a second cab. It's just going to spread out...

drummer wants me to use a pick

It's really up to you. I use a brass pick, a felt pick and a heavy Dunlop pick. I don't use them that often. Depends on what the song calls for. If you don't feel like playing with a pick dont. Do you record your practices?

    I'll take 93 if it's still available!

    Flatwound Club

I just put flats on my GL USA. I've always hated the string noise of rounds. To me These 77s sound much better.

    Cranking The Bass Knob

I had this habit. I'd just crank everything wide open before I plug in. Then set my EQ on the head. This new jazz I have. Now, I'm plugging in. Everything set on zero. So I can really dial in my tone. This is the best bass I've ever owned. It just sounds amazing. I'm really changing my whole...

    solo bass at open mic?

Open Mic nights are the best learning experience you can have as a musician. Nothing more exciting to me than jamming with total strangers. It will really boost your improv game! Great way to network too!

Song ideas for new cover band - with a twist!

Just ask the people in the nursing homes. They can give you the best ideas. I wouldn't sing songs about death though. Most of them don't need to be reminded of the next step of evolution. Keep it happy!

Well I had to do it! (Quit my band)

2 gigs in how long? That's not a band. Sounds like a lame support group. I got sick of that crap years ago. I do fill in work from time to time ,but will never do the band thing on a fulltime basis. Too much drama. Too much politics. You can't just show up and play, or jam. I don't have to play...

    The Mediocre Bassist Club

Man, I learned the best lessons under guys like that. Don't be afraid. Just enjoy the moment. You'll play your best if you focus on the overall music instead of just what you play. Guys like that really open up that opportunity. Plus you'll venture out of your comfort zone easier and try...

    Good Punk Bass?

The cool thing about p basses. If they don't have a scratch. They look beautiful. If their beat to hell. They're respected.

    Not tolerated as a musician

Is this band your bread and butter? If not. Screw the drama. Find another gig and move on. I did it for a living. I went from just bass player, to band dad, to bailbondsman. To marriage counselor. To manager. I got tired of it. The one thing i loved most tunred into something i hated with a...
