+1 on the GK mb210... they're incredibly light, and the sound quality is great at both soft AND loud volumes.

I'm a huge GK fan and I would love to recommend the GK 1001RB-II along with Ampeg SVT 410 HLF cab for the Amp set up, and also the DiMarzio Model J's for pickups. You might also want to check out the Line 6 Verbzilla. Especially the model with the Octo setting if possible. I don't have a need for it, but it still gave me GAS after I tried it out.

+1 That, or the VT Bass pedal. The VT Bass allows for a more flexible mid-range adjustment.

I'm a huge fan of Lavacables. Smallest 1/4in plugs I've ever seen. The sleeve design SEEMS tricky, but it's actually really easy to handle. I'm pretty sure there's a video on YouTube or something by Mark, showing you how to get it done. And the sleeve design makes the cable feel much more sturdy...

How about the GK MB2-500 and the GK 4x10 NEO cabs? Or 2 2x10's if you REALLY want portability. I checked out the GK MB210 combo amp at GC the other day... 500 watt SS amp with 2x10 NEO speakers. I could literally pick it up with two fingers comfortably. And it was freaking SWEET sounding too...

Pickups play a pretty big role in the tone. I replaced my stock Fender Jazz passive pickups on my Geddy precisely because it didn't sound full enough for me. I replaced them with DiMarzio Model J's. Might want to check them out... Good luck!

Wait.. Just wanted to correct myself. Much of the finger squeaking and noise I got that I thought were from the strings actually turned out to be from my compressor. I had the settings too sensitive. The finger noise isn't that big of an issue.

+1. IME, cutting the mids and boosting bass/treble sounds VERY nice when you're right next to the amp, but in the mix it gets lost and it gets very muddy. The low mids give it a nice thumping punch and the high mids give more clarity. I agree that you need to be aware that SansAmp Bass...
