I have an old Eko BA4 fretless acoustic with flatwounds (cost me £30 during the early 90s) and it's built to last - very robust. Volume is perfectly fine, although it has a very useful bridge pickup.

Wow, just received my RB-888 from the USA and with the diminutive body and shorter scale it is markedly lighter than my old MC-924. An added bonus is the neck which is surprisingly thin at the nut and much faster. Delighted with this one.

This isn't an 'all acoustic bass guitar', despite being pretty loud with good projection, it has a more than adequate piezoelectric pickup in the bridge...

:D I had one of these (the active model and the same finish) from new - broke my heart to sell it, but simply too heavy for me to use regularly. I've just bought an Ibanez RB 888 (bean bass) to make up for it - pounds lighter...

It is entirely original - I've had it for some 20 years (and it was - barely - used by the previous owner who couldn't get on with the lack of frets/markings). I could post an image, but it looks virtually identical to this one...

I have an Epiphone EB-0 which is a cheap, short scale alternative with a reasonable tonal range (not staggeringly wide).

I have a 4-string, fretless (unlined, no dot markers) - looks great, great projection and I absolutely love it. I had mine professionally set up with Fender flatwounds and it transformed the bass - much faster now. As a bonus, it cost me £20...
