It seems more logical to pair the strings with the pickup rather than vice versa, no? 🤔 Especially when you've already got an expensive pair of pickups in there "Good tone" being subjective, you need to know what it is about your sound you want to change and make your decision based on that

Just got mine but been too busy to practice at all this week, hopefully I'll find a few minutes this weekend to try it out. I haven't even taken the protective wrapping off yet but it's smaller and lighter than I expected, especially compared to my schecter.

Ah right, I've never owned a jbass so with the positioning of the screws and the fact it existed to begin with I just always assumed the neck pickup was mounted to it. I also always wondered why one was mounted to the guard and the other was screwed into the body so that explains a lot lmao

Is the pickup not mounted to the pickguard?

Anybody tried B or A tuning on their short scale and able to recommend a set? Talking with a band right now who mostly plays in B standard and want to give the SG a try

Is the noise the same with both pickups active vs having one solo'd?

Curious: is your ear training limited to transcribing songs by ears or do you do relative pitch training as well to improve interval recognition? It might make those random collections of notes sound less random.

Fair enough. Generally speaking if it's softer/harder on your fingers it'll likely be softer/harder on your frets so in the case of the elixers they'll likely cause a little less wear than some of the others
