Squier Squire 6 string Affinity Jazz!

Avert ye eyes oh thee of OCD! The strings don't pass in between the pole pieces, but the pickups is still very even and tight. Hipshot bridge perfectly aligned, but I didn't bother filling the old holes, just drilled new ones for the new screw pattern.

I also finished shielding the pickup cavities and. Ow it's pretty dead silent. I have to say, the pickups sound great to my ears, so no need to swap them out. I also put on Labella RC Nickels and it's exactly what I'm after for sound.

Is the noise the same with both pickups active vs having one solo'd?

I also am going to shield mine. Did you get the brass or the aluminum version of the hip shot a style bridge? I think I'm going to do that mod as well. I'm going to look into sending the pickguard to pickguard planet and have a custom red tort guard made. They don't have a template yet. I think it will look good.

The noise was there regardless. It wasn't standard signal coil noise, but definitely a shielding issue. Copper tape in the cavities all connected to ground cured it.

That is an optical illusion because I didn't get head on enough when taking the picture. There is the same amount of clearance to the edge of the fretboard as the B string has.

By sparkling do you mean the finish? If so, yes!

I always go brass. Shielding is a must. The pickups sound great after shielding, and the bass is dead quiet. The pick guard idea sounds super cool! If you get it done I may go that route myself.

Ah right, I've never owned a jbass so with the positioning of the screws and the fact it existed to begin with I just always assumed the neck pickup was mounted to it. I also always wondered why one was mounted to the guard and the other was screwed into the body so that explains a lot lmao

I will be pulling the proverbial trigger on one of these 6-string Squier thingies next week.

What’s funny is that I’m thinking of a few of the things I’ve read here this morning.

Break out the roll of copper foil and get busy, as I’ve had to do on every Fender I’ve ever owned.

Reach out to Pickguard Planet about a red pearloid pickguard.

I’m seeing where these basses come with no case. Arrgghh….🤯🤯. Oh, well, I have a decent enough Gator soft shell case that will do for now.

A thought in my mind is that I’ve bought 2 really nice 6-strings over the years, but sold them a month or so later because I simply didn’t play them. But my curiosity is high with this one.

Here’s hoping some bank transfers hit tomorrow!

Cool, I'll be a-waiting for mine from Sweetwater. My sales guy treats me really well, plus he added a 10% discount that I didn't see when I checked out with the bass. So between that and free shipping, I'll have a few cents under $300 in this bass.

I'm hoping I can live with the strings that come with the Squier for a little bit. I use a gauge bigger than anyone ships a bass out with. And I want to spend a few days setting it up and playing it before I decide to do any mods.

Just last week, I sold my Stingray Special. I didn't really want to, but it wasn't getting a lot of play and when I quipped about it to my bandleader, who seems to been a roll collecting Music Man guitars, he offered to buy it! It will live in our rehearsal studio and I can play it in rehearsals and he'll even bring to gigs if I want. Plus the offer is there for me to buy it back for what he paid for it should I decide to.

That's all to say, I typically bring an extra bass on gigs. I was gonna miss the Stingray, but what the hey? I'll bring along the Squier as the proverbial spare.

I got 10% off in the cart on MF too, so I guess these are already getting discounted lol. Unfortunately I still had to pay sales tax :(

The only other J I have is a detuned PJ so I'm gonna try a few different sets, fortunately I almost never throw away bass strings so I have a few different things to try.

Just got mine but been too busy to practice at all this week, hopefully I'll find a few minutes this weekend to try it out. I haven't even taken the protective wrapping off yet but it's smaller and lighter than I expected, especially compared to my schecter.

I'm sending my pickguard off to pickguard planet/Chandler to have one custom made in a different color. So soon they will have a template available in case anyone else wants to do this mod. I thought you guys might find it interesting that it doesn't have the swimming pool cut out or the routing where they just go under the pickguard to the controls like some Jazz basses. This is vintage style so if you want to go full blown Jaco no-pickguard-no problem. Looks kinda cool IMHO
