    Name my Flats

Tried a set of flatwounds a while ago, and they didn't fit the bands I was in. So, they came off the bass and into a drawer. Now that I am in a country band, I need the flat sound. I picked these up a while ago, but can't remember which brand they are. Red felt at the tuners, and black felt at...

    Tone is in the...

There is a legend that... Pete Townsend and Eddie Van Halen met backstage. Eddie offered to Pete to play through his rig. Eddie's guitar. Eddie's effects. Eddie's amp. And...Pete sounded like Pete.

I'm starting to see the appeal of lo-fi pedals and plug-ins.

    Alice's Restaurant?

Growing up outside of St. Louis, it was a noon tradition on KSHE 95 for my cousins and I.

    NBD...again?

All that for what you would pay for just the case?! You made out very well.

    NBD...again?

Affinty or Standard? Couldn't quite make it out in your photo. Either way, with all the upgrades, I bet it is sweet to play.

Ruined my first build attempt trying to finish it.

That's a bummer. Sounds like the tree conspired against you. However, the structural integrity still looks sound. It is unfortunate, but you should finish it. It could sound amazing. Worst case is you hate the flaws, and cover it with a solid color.

Ruined my first build attempt trying to finish it.

Lessons learned... I wouldn't stop though. I don't think any of those are so bad to make it look like rubbish. The cracks don't look bad... vintage even. Time to brush up on those woodworking skills. We fixed a Jaguar that had been dropped (from a rooftop by the looks of it) by giving it the...

    My Place to Say Something?

Public or private schools both have their financial challenges. Music programs are seldom at the top of the budget discussions, unless it is a music-centric school. Nonetheless, donate your time. I had a blast being a "tech" for the middle school band when my kids were there. It was very...

Is this really a flatwound string?

That is one sweet looking bass and will serve you well for a long time. (Took too long typing my previous message to not see the bass pics. :woot:)

Is this really a flatwound string?

Unless the previous owner told you he changed the strings recently, it is probably a wise idea to put new strings on it and get playing. Are you looking to play flats? If you drop in with the style(s) of music you enjoy/want to play, type of bass it is (i.e. pickup) and your budget, you'll get...

    How to spend 100?

First off, happy birthday! Lots of great suggestions here. Being very specific, Sweetwater has the Focusrite Scarlett Solo on sale right now for less than $100. Nice to play along with online lessons, YouTube, etc.

    Amps on a budget

I agree with others encouraging you to stay away from cheap newer amps. What does your practice and jam session setups look like? Or, what do you foresee in the future? I'll offer a couple different paths to consider. I have used them all to great success. - Focusrite into computer with...
