How long do you think I should keep my Squier Jazz 5 String Bass?

Keep your bass... If you like it. All I know is I'm not selling my first bass. It's a cherry red1962 Gibson Eb-3. :D

*Stuck between two Amps! PLEASE HELP ME OUT?*

I actually don't have any experience with the warwick but I have played the GK quite a bit. (a friend of mine has one). The GK has a really weird sound. I like the features that It offers but the cabs that I've tried from the backline series (both 110 and 15") are really muddy and have WAY too...

    The Thread of Musical Fails!

lots of threads like this... but once I was playing a punk gig with some other bands and the bassist in another band was playing a gibson sg bass and running back and forth quickly on the stage. When he stopped, his bass didn't and it took him down face first. The neck broke :( too.

Double Bass Auditioning while out of practice, oh nos

A agree with what the people above me have said: see if you can audition early. If you can't then take your music and a recording of the pieces that you;re playing with you and look at it and try and practice mentally. While this won't help with the physical aspect (that's what the BG) is...

Good albums for learning to play "behind the beat"

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but alot of swing records feature basslines that are behind the beat. Check out "BAM BAM BAM" by the ray brown trio. It's a great album just for the bass playing, whether you like jazz or not.

Double Bass Markbass 121p vs minimark

I got a markbass cmd121p about a month ago and it's just what I was looking for! It sounds great with my fender jazz basses and wav 4 EUB. I've found that this amp is very directional and that I don't like it's sound too much unless it's off the ground and pointed straight at me. I don't hate...

    Upright/BG players!

I agree with most of the other statements that I've read. The upright is a whole 'nother instrument. Sure, it has the same notes and basic concept behind how it's played is the same, but that's about where the similarities end. I love them both, but they are quite different. I have found...

    Complete noob

I say invest in a good amp and a decent bass. based on your choice of the stilleto I'd say your budget is...$500? I would get a decent amp like a fender practice amp or one of the smaller line 6 combo amps and find a good starter bass (used fender, schecter, or epiphone). Or you could go with a...

    Small combo amp ideas

+1 for the markbass cmd121p. It's the best sounding amp that I've used for both upright and electric. Plus it so friggin' portable.

Markbass CMD 151P combo: A few questions please

I have the cmd121p, which is basically the same as your amp with a 12" speaker and a tweeter. I've found it to be perfectly adequate for rock/blues situations somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 of the way on both master and gain knobs without an extension cab. As far as the cab goes I'd go for the...

My New (to me) Fender PB-551

sweet bass. Gotta love fender japan. I've got a similar j bass that (I think) was made in Japan that I paid $175 for. I bought it as a "beater bass" and now it's one of my main stage basses. It's great for the mid rangey rock stuff. enjoy the new bass.

    Guitarists tone

yep, most guitards seem to forget that their guitars have a tone control that has a setting other than all the way and that their guitars have (maybe) a pickup other than the bridge. Treble can be a great thing when it's used properly but all treble all the time wears on the ears mighty...

What's one of the dumbest/most embarrassing bass moments you've had or witnessed?

I've got one. I play in a jazz band with two bassists. We switch off at various points in the set and it works out. Usually whoever isn't playing just sits in a chair behind the amp (a hartke kickback 15). Well, one day at practice as I was playing the other bassist managed to kick over the...

A million-year-old question - What is your absolute favourite bass to play?

Fender MIM Deluxe Jazz. Definitely my favorite bass. I also own a 1962 Gibson Eb-3 (cherry red) and the jazz blows it out of the water. I picked the jazz up for $504 on sale new. I was looking at basses twice that price but out of the dozens of $1000 fenders, ibanez(es?), stingrays, and...
