the Official Ampeg Club Part 5

Even tho I'm one of them pesky and disliked guitarists... Does this qualify me to be on here? 1972 VT-22 1974 V4 1969 GU-12 1969 B25-B (modded and hot-rodded) 2003 GVT52-212 Oh and I talked several of my dearest bass players into Ampegs as well...

ALL BASSISTS - set up question

BTW I really would like numbers, measurements. Of course I set up my basses with as low an action as possible before fret buzz. The problem is: fret buzz is directly related to force of attack (string resonance amplitude) and technique (do you strike the string so that the vibrations will be...

ALL BASSISTS - set up question

Yes, that is another detail: my fret boards are compound radius, 10" to 16, so theoretically I should be able to go a little lower before strings buzz. This advantage is IMHO more than eaten up by the use of 24 frets... And re the official web sites of the Big Boys and their specs: yes of...

ALL BASSISTS - set up question

Hello, I have a question for bass guitarists: A guitar can be set up in such a way that almost everybody can be sorta kinda happy when playing it. Then to be tweaked later on. But it seems that bassists are much more diverse in their setup demands. I use my own proprietary hardware, and the...

    Teye-bass: 32 vs 34 - your input please

Oh and one more thing: after the feel of the two La India protos is approved/tweaked, I am geared up (bodies being readied as we speak) to make the following models: La Perla (talk about over-the-top luxury: a bass for a Maharadja) La India (current prototypes) El Torero (metal body...

    Teye-bass: 32 vs 34 - your input please

Thank you Gentlemen for your opinions, suggestions, and compliments! I've run a poll in another post, and the score is a consistent 60-40 in favor of the 34. I've decided to offer both in the catalog. However, much more important it is for me to read what bassists say and think. The...

    32 vs 34

The problem is, I make everything right here in the USA, in my back yard, with a team of highly skilled luthiers. I use American-made boutique pick-ups. I make my own bridge and tailpiece. I finish the guitars using an old classical/flamenco guitar technique. Use hand-selected woods and prime...

    32 vs 34

Guys, thanks for all your responses. The deal is, I'm figuring out how many of each to make in the first run of six. Personally, I prefer the sound that I can achieve with the 32. But a very good friend who's a dealer advises me to stick only to 34's. I'm just trying to educate myself what is a...

    32 vs 34

So if you had the choice on the same model bass, between a 32 and a 34 inch scale length, and the 32 sounded maybe even better than the 34, which one would you choose and why?

    Teye-bass: 32 vs 34 - your input please

Hello, my name is Teye, I've been making guitars for awhile, plus two prototype bass guitars. Am about to start fully on the basses. Yes they have bling, but are underneath serious instruments. Both owners of the prototypes were pleasantly surprised. A question: I designed my bass to be a...

replacement pick up for Ampeg Dan Armstrong

There's nothing out there that replaces these pickups, cause they have two different coils on top of each other. Back in the eighties, we re-wound such a pickup. It was not so hard to do. You just chip away at the (brittle) putty til you have the parts loose. They are almost DIY pickups. We...

    Ampeg V-2

Agree. The V-2 is way underpowered to be a good bass amp. Also the circuit is voiced to give a fairly early breakup. The V-2 runs on much higher voltage than the V4 which is on paper almost identical. The V-4 (or V-4B) is a way better bass amp, but why not shoot for the SVT? I DO like the V-2...

Yay, Electric Gypsy in Bass Form! (Teye Guitars)

Hello guys, I googled into this forum and found the nice compliments on my work... Thanks!!! The 1st bass was a one-off for a Canadian customer, and a prototype. According to him, his vintage Fenders and Gibsons now rarely see the light of day... Gotta admit: my bass sounded pretty awesome, and...

    1969 Ampeg SVT

JimmyM you make my day! Thanks. You see, it was 1969, I was 11, sitting with my dad in the family car in the Netherlands, Honky Tonk Women came on the radio, my life changed forever. I've been pretty obsessed with THOSE SOUNDS ever since. Just this afternoon, I repaired a 1969 Ampeg B25B that my...

    1969 Ampeg SVT

There's a (excellent) movie about the Stones' 1969 tour: 'Gimme Shelter'. The concert fragments from the first half of the movie were recorded in late November 1969, towards the very end of the tour. Especially during the song 'Honky Tonk Women' you can see very well the imposing backline. I...
