    Double Bass Schulhoff Concertino

I had a feeling that it was a left hand pizz. Thanks!

    Double Bass Schulhoff Concertino

Can anyone tell me what the "+" denotes in measure 26 and 101 in the 2nd movement? I'm assuming it is something that can be played with the left hand while the right hand plays col legno. Thanks!

Double Bass Snobbery, and why you're probably right

I think one of the reasons bassists on this site recommend against very cheap instruments is that a lot of them are unplayable or have serious problems. When my private students come in with these "great deals" that they bought without consulting me, I really have to hold my tongue when they...

    Double Bass Skype

How much would someone charge for a Skype lesson? For example, if someone charges $40/hr for in-person lessons, how much could they charge for Skype lessons?

Double Bass Please ID my French Bow

You might want to take it into to a shop that does bow repair and rehairs. They may be able to tell you, as they work with all different types of bows every day. It is really hard to tell a bow's maker just from pictures, especially if it doesn't have a stamp. They might also be able to help you...

Double Bass Please ID my French Bow

First off, you need to loosen that bow. Second, is there any sort of stamp or lettering on the side of the stick above the frog? That will sometimes tell you the maker. If it is super low quality, it may not be stamped. Why do you want to know? Just for your information or are you selling it?

    Double Bass College Auditions

Has anyone started hearing about where they got in? I'm guessing auditions are over by this time.

    Double Bass Boston+Bass+the T=?

Unless rules have changed in the past few years, basses are allowed on the T. If you use a wheel, make sure to take it off before getting on. The only time you will definitely not be able to get on the T with your bass is right before or after Red Sox games, especially with the green line. Also...

    Double Bass College Auditions

I just meant that those two excerpts are asked on almost every audition list you will see. Get ready to play them for the rest of your life, ad nauseum.

    Double Bass College Auditions

If you are already getting bored with Mozart 40 and Beethoven 5 at you're age, you're in for a big shock.

Double Bass College Audition Material Question

No, they (should) know the standard audition material really well. You don't need to bring scores. And even if you're playing something more obscure, they are mainly just listening for how you play and your potential. Best of luck!

    Double Bass bass storage advice

Why are you leaving your bass under a bus for a month? Depending on the type of bus you can definitely wedge it (without the trunk) into one of the seats and it should stay put pretty well. But is it just going to be sitting on the bus for a month? You may have temperature/humidity problems up...

Double Bass Flying with my bass? Is it possible?`

Which airline are you flying? There are some that are more okay with basses than others. Southwest is one of the best airlines for checking basses. If you don't have a flight case, you can usually rent one from a shop or maybe someone will let you borrow their's. As long as the case with your...

Double Bass Where do people store their flight cases?

Using it as extra closet is not a bad idea, maybe for storing cases of beer. Thanks!

Double Bass Where do people store their flight cases?

Under the bed? You do realize I'm talking about a 7 foot x 3 foot flight trunk for a double bass? I'd like to see that bed!
