Agreed. Don't know the first thing about being in a band. Never been in one. But I have been part of several successful groups and they were all built on chemistry not competition. As soon as competition came into the mix it was the beginning of the end.

I think the idea of donating it to someone, especially someone young that can't afford their own, makes much more of a statement regarding your love for the instrument and for music as a whole. Your instrument, and you through the connection, will live on in some way.
