Alright, so I finally get to play on wood. I've played both the Buffet R13 and the Yamaha Allegro, and while I liked the Allegro a little more, has anyone heard anything about lifespan or tone over time that would be good to know, as I expect to play whatever I choose for the next 10 years or so.

I usually do jazz melodies and improvs that take me all over the fretboard. I'll often start off with Anthropology, then do Caravan and Four Brothers. If I still like the bass I'll test the slap tone and play Brickhouse or Chameleon.

I was looking around at MF, and I noticed lots of PA power amps, and they seem like great deals, (900w at 2 ohms for $450) Do they only work in PA systems or could you set them up in your rack?

I would imagine that those who might teach lessons and gig occasionally might have a medium combo at their lesson space and then some big cabs. Do you use the cabs as chairs or whatnot in your house?

I have a squire MB-4 P/J that I'm quite pleased with. I think for 300 for a bass and 400 for an amp, you could get a 450 MIM Fender and a practice amp (15-25w Fender/Crate/Peavey) As for thumb rests, I find that I end up just putting my thumb on the side of the pup for finger style. I would not...

Jaco was passive. I found the a small salamander and some lighter fluid worked for a more "P" sound though, but I think a vole will get you more growl.

I guess it could have been my eq, or I could have been using the wrong cheese. You did allow the sheep to defecate on your head though? If not, try eating some whey.

I think filling the electronics compartment with cottage cheese is the best way to go. Then allow a sheep to defecate on your face. It should give a vintage 70's jazz tone.

I'm confused by the concept of a piccolo bass. Is it like the first 4 strings of a guitar or is something like C, F, Bb, Eb?

I wouldn't think you'd get a great vintage jazz sound with active pups. I don't know much about actives though, so is their some switch you can flick and you go passive?

I play winds and I have a piano but I can't play keys that well.
